Here’s our second very special gem at Philly Goat Project to tell you about this week up: OUR STORYBOOK TRAIL 📚💚

Did you know that nestled right in the heart of Philadelphia there is space for families to bring literacy to life? The Philly Goat Project Storybook Trail is an interactive wooded path featuring two read-aloud stories each month that focus in some way on nature. At the entrance to the trail you’ll find activities to enhance the reading experience and climbing equipment throughout the path. Families and classrooms are welcome any day of the week sun up to sundown and once a month you can join us for group story time including crafts and singalongs with Philly’s favorite goats. As a non-profit committed to removing barriers to community wellness and education Philly Goat Project’s Storybook Trail makes reading and nature fun and accessible for all.

If you missed yesterday’s post, scroll back to learn all about our Grief Garden. 💚

We have two very special gems at Philly Goat Project to tell you about this week.

First up: OUR GRIEF GARDEN 🪴💚

Did you know that in one of Philadelphia’s oldest neighborhoods there is a free public space for bereavement? The Philly Goat Project Grief Garden is a community maintained space accessible to all visitors seven days a week, sun up to sun down. This peaceful corner of the Goat Project campus features quiet spaces to reflect, multiple interactive installations, and the city’s only wind phone to connect with loved ones through loss. The Grief Garden complements other bereavement activities such as free seasonal community grief walks and even monthly volunteer opportunities. As a community building organization Philly Goat Project offers regular opportunities for neighbors, friends, and families to make meaningful connections surrounded by the beauty of nature. Visit the Grief Garden at 6336 Ardleigh Street in Germantown or visit https://www.phillygoatproject.org/griefgarden to learn more.

Stay tuned tomorrow for all about our Storybook Trail. 💚

Our next Grief Walk in Nature is Saturday, September 26th from 12pm-2pm with grief coach Naila Francis of Naila Francis. 💚

Our 2-hour program starts right at 12pm with a brief guided meditation. Then we will embark on a quiet 30-minute walk through the arboretum, with a few stops along the way for reflection. Our last hour of the program is devoted to an “open sharing” activity. This activity is based off of each person’s individual comfort. Every part of our program is optional and is not required.

Our fall event’s theme is Harvesting Hope.

We welcome anyone to join us, regardless of loss and regardless of time since the loss.

FREE, all ages, no reservations needed. Just come.

Last camp visit of the summer! 🥹🐐

We wrapped up a delightful summer of camp visits with our friends from Briar Bush Nature Center! The kids got the full goat experience: learning all about our goats and how we care for them, helping with feeding, trying their hand at some trick training, and of course a riveting game of Red Light Green Light. 🚦

It was definitely bittersweet knowing this was our final camp visit of the season, but we couldn’t have asked for a more fun group to end the summer with. 💚🐐

Draw A Goat with us! ✍️🎨🐐🖼️

Saturday, September 19
1pm-3pm

Come and learn to draw a goat from Philly’s own Barbara Katus. After graduating from PAFA, Barbara won the Packard Prize for animal drawing. She has also carried a sketchbook with her for over 40 years...and she is going to teach us to draw goats!

Folx wishing to participate in the class should bring a sketchbook that can comfortably be held in the hand while observing and drawing with charcoal pencils or graphite pencils. (so bring a sketchbook and something to draw with, maybe a portable folding chair....we’ll bring the goats!)

We will talk a little bit about anatomy and observation, but the atmosphere will be light and fun for all ages! Drawing from life is exciting, challenging, and very rewarding.

This event is FREE!

Thanks to our partners LGO123 for joining us to help care for our Storybook Trail!

We were thrilled to provide a platform for many “firsts” this week: working outside in nature with a wide range of hand tools and also helping to walk the goats!

We are so grateful that we have so many new friends in our herd! 💚
