Drawing upon a mastery of Flamenco integrated with other dance forms and mixed media, PyA embraces the tension between modern and traditional approaches. In 2000, Elba Hevia y Vaca founded Pasión y Arte out of an intensely personal conviction that traditional Spanish Flamenco dance is a perfect vessel to empower women. Hevia y Vaca's commitment to expand the boundaries of the form is evidenced in
the 10 original, full-length, Flamenco-based dance pieces she has created for the company, and in the numerous grants, fellowships and accolades awarded to Hevia y Vaca and PyA under her direction. PyA expands the knowledge of the Flamenco art form beyond its strict conventions of dance, production styles, and gender stereotyping.
