Let’s take a moment to spotlight Amanda Peña, who has been training with our Artistic Director Elba Hevia y Vaca apprentice for the past three years. For two of those years, our work together was supported by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Master/Apprenticeship Program — a program that has since been cut.

The PCA Master/Apprenticeship program was a vital funding source for artists across Pennsylvania, pairing masters with emerging practitioners to keep living traditions alive. Its loss is a real blow to the arts community, and to the kind of deep, sustained artistic development that can’t be rushed.

Amanda’s dedication has never wavered. Her growth as a dancer and artist over these three years is a testament to what becomes possible when a community invests in its artists — and to what we stand to lose when that support disappears. We hope you’ll join us in celebrating her on the June 7th stage.

Excited to show excerpts of my new work in progress of Hacia La Luz in June7th! Hacia La Luz will be premiering in April 2027 at Esperanza Theater! My immersion to my Andean ancestors spirituality, music and folklore dance for the last 7 years has created a huge shift in my work…Reverdecer-danced by Amanda Peña and Marina Kev!
