A round of applause is in order for PYP Alum Brianna Arce, who was featured in this year’s PWTF! In a serendipitous turn of events, she was paired with Serenity Gonzalez, who first performed Bri’s work with PYP in the 2024 New Voices Festival.

We love seeing the careers of our young playwrights and actors blossom, and it’s even better when they get to work with one another along the way!

Thank you to our Bloomberg Arts Interns, Dylan and Venus, for spending the summer with us! We’re proud to be involved in Bloomberg Arts Internship, which offers paid-internships for rising-seniors and provides young people with valuable work experience.

Last week marked the end of a season of submission readings, staff meetings, and summer camp adventures. Wishing them the best ever school-year ahead, and plenty more playwriting in the future! ✏️

A look back at “Emergence” by PYP Playwright Zoe Palmer! We were thrilled to take part in the PlayPenn New Play Development New Play Development Festival for the second year in a row, and to watch Zoe’s work come to life on the stage.

Zoe has worked with PYP for the past six years, and has been a Resident Playwright for the last 4. We’re proud to have been a part of her artistic journey, and wish her all the best as she heads to college in the fall! 🎓

We can’t wait for tonight’s performance of Emergence, written by PYP student Zoe Palmer! Please note, the performance has been moved to Philadelphia Theatre Company’s Suzanne Roberts Theater (480 S Broad St.) at 7PM. This performance is a part of the PlayPenn New Play Development 2026 New Play Development Conference! 🥳

The numbers are in for this year’s Annual Playwriting Festival submissions! 🥳 We’re elated to have received 532 submissions from around 360 Philadelphia schools.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to submit - our team of readers is hard at work reading your excellent plays and monologues and writing personalized feedback for each and every piece submitted! 💛

Playwriting Playground was a BLAST! Our campers worked on creative plays and monologues of all kinds, including: a buddy musical about a bowler and a bowling ball 🎳 adventures with Etch a Sketch and Mr. Potato Head 🥔 and a time-travel thriller starring Frank Sinatra and Hamilton 🎤

Performed by the campers themselves for an audience of family and friends, we couldn’t help but smile the whole way through! Thank you to everyone who joined in in the fun — we can’t wait to do it all again next summer! ☀️

A little something fun for the middle of the week...the PYP Prize Box! 🪄 Gifted to us by our friend and colleague Nia on her departure, the prize box is filled with stickers, pencils and pens, and lots of other fun trinkets and treats for our students 📝

Most importantly, it reminds us of Nia, her amazing work for PYP over the years, and her love for stickers ⭐️ as she heads off on new adventures! 🌟♥️

PYP needs your support! 💜 From our first-ever run of the Civic Theater Project to four completely SOLD OUT Day Off Camps, we’ve accomplished so much this season. But we’re not done yet! As we approach our 40th anniversary, we want to bring free and reduced-cost programming to even MORE classrooms next year. So far, we’ve raised nearly 30% of our fundraising goal. 💜
