Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits are currently unavailable or delayed for low-income individuals and families across the country. This disruption to SNAP and many other social services has created an urgent food insecurity for unhoused and unsheltered individuals in Center City, who already face limited access to regular meals.

Starting this Wednesday, November 5th, the Center-Philadelphia will host a weekly Soup-To-Go meal distribution outside the Broad Street entrance of Arch Street United Methodist Church to offset the burden of the SNAP shutdown.

Each week through November (and longer if needed), unhoused and unsheltered neighbors can stop by for a cup of hot soup as well as a small snack or roll as available:

Wednesday 11/5 4-5pm
Wednesday 11/12 4-5pm
Wednesday 11/19 4-5pm
Tuesday 11/25 4-5pm (Adjusted for Thanksgiving.)

Want to help share the load? We can't do it without you!

In moments like these, it is important that every helping hand comes together to bridge gaps in services, reminding us that compassionate community care doesn’t take a break when government services do. It strengthens.

It’s Wishlist Wednesday!💫✨ On Wednesdays, we highlight the item at the top of our wishlist when it comes to items and supplies that are most needed for unhoused and unsheltered guests at the Center. This week, our biggest wish is for PANTS! As our lovely Pennsylvania temperatures turn from summer to fall, unhoused and unsheltered folks are in serious need of long pants to keep their body and legs protected from the colder temperatures. Swipe to find out how to donate, or visit the link in our bio to purchase from our Amazon Wishlist!

We are so excited to share that we have been selected as a Phlow Philly grant recipient! Phlow Philly is an initiative that partners with Philly-based organizations to provide 90,000 products and assemble 4,500 period care kits. At The Center Philadelphia, we know firsthand how difficult it is for our unhoused and unsheltered neighbors to access menstrual products—let alone public bathrooms. We are so excited to receive our supplies and assemble our care kits next week! Stay tuned for photos and updates.

Our Story

Grace Cafe is a program of The Center - Philadelphia @ Arch Street United Methodist Church on Sunday Evenings. All of our neighbors, especially center city's most vulnerable citizens, those currently experiencing housing and food insecurity, are invited to attend. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we serve 200-250 guests each Sunday with take-out meals and giveaways and Monday through Thursday we are open 10-3 pm for limited showers, laundry, and case management.

People are able to financially donate at https://charity.gofundme.com/o/en/campaign/grace-cafe-and-covid-19 or donate through our amazon wishlist at https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/1Q9UZ6ON2GQ5S?ref_=wl_share.
