Foundation for Health Equity supports communities in Northwest Philadelphia by building on the assets

In 2021, Green Tree Community Health Foundation became Foundation for Health Equity, renewed its commitment to addressing issues of health equity, and concentrated its grantmaking in neighborhoods of Northwest Philadelphia facing the greatest barriers to optimal health. These include neighborhoods in the 19118, 19119, 19128, 19138, 19144, 19150 zip codes. We provide direct support to organizations

fulfilling immediate, individual needs as well as addressing historical, systemic inequities. For example, we fund programs that feed hungry families as well as work to end food deserts. We also fund programs that help older adults age in place as well as protect their rights. Our goal is to improve systems that have historically made it difficult for people to gain and maintain health.

📣 Swarthmore College to cover tuition for students from families making less than $200,000 annually. 👏🏽

“The Swarthmore Tuition Guarantee is a powerful demonstration of our belief that a student’s intellectual curiosity, creativity, and talent should decide what’s possible, not whether they can pay for tuition,” Valerie Smith, the college’s president, said in a release. “We hope it communicates to families that their financial circumstances are not a barrier to a transformational liberal arts education at Swarthmore.”

Today is World Hunger Day - observed annually on May 28, World Hunger Day raises awareness about the hundreds of millions of people facing acute food insecurity and celebrate community-led solutions.

Global hunger levels have doubled in the last decade, with an estimated 318 million people facing acute food insecurity due to issues such as conflict, climate shocks, and systemic inequality.

Hunger is not inevitable. It is created by systems we have the power to change. Every day, people around the world are proving that transformation is possible: farmers regenerating their land, women leading local governments, youth launching climate-smart innovations and communities organizing for their own development.

This year’s World Hunger Day celebrates the contributions we all make: the hands that plant seeds, lift others up, learn new skills, build solutions, share knowledge, raise voices and open new futures.

Celebrated every May, Older Americans Month (OAM) is a time to recognize older Americans' contributions, highlight aging trends, and reaffirm commitments to serving older adults in our communities.

This year’s theme, “Champion Your Health,” focuses on prevention, wellness, and personal responsibility as cornerstones of healthy aging. It encourages older adults to take an active role in their health — advocating for themselves, accessing preventive care, and making informed decisions that support independence.
