We were proud to participate with many other groups today for Wreaths Across America at Philadelphia National Cemetery in West Oak Lane, placing 4,140 wreaths on veterans’ graves.

“Remember, we are not here today to decorate graves. We are here to remember not their deaths, but their lives. Each wreath is a gift of appreciation from a grateful America.

These live balsam fir wreaths symbolize our honor to those who have served and are serving in the armed forces of our great nation and to their families who endure sacrifices every day on our behalf. To our children, we want you to understand that the freedoms you enjoy today have not been free but have come with a cost that someday, you may have to pay yourself.

As a nation standing together, we can defeat terrorism, hatred and injustice. Thanks to our Veterans, we have the freedom to do just that."

Today is the 70th Anniversary of Rosa Parks’ Refusal to Give Up Her Seat on an Alabama Bus, an NSDAR Commemorative Event this year! The Independence Hall Chapter donated 40 Rosa Parks books. They were distributed between 5 Little Free Libraries, at Elfreth’s Alley, the Betsy Ross House, Arch Street Meeting House, Pennsylvania Hospital and Dickinson Square Park.

The simple, courageous act of protest by Rosa Parks, and her subsequent arrest, led to a city-wide bus boycott that lasted 381 days. Her act gave African Americans a new sense of pride and purpose and inspired non-violent protests in other cities. Many consider her singular act of protest to be the event that sparked the Civil Rights movement.

Independence Day 2025

"The American Flag is an important symbol of our nation. It is the symbol of all we hold dear. We carry this Flag today in honor of all those who have served America, and particularly those who gave their lives so that we might live in Freedom. We sleep safely at night because of their sacrifice."

We are always so proud to represent the Daughters of the American Revolution in the Independence Day Parade in Philadelphia! We've been carrying a 20' x 30' Flag with Saving Hallowed Ground for almost 10 years! There were so many great elements in this year's parade, especially the dancers from DANCE4LIFE School of the Arts and Training Institute , Miss Philadelphia Scholarship Organization and violinist, Olivia Flickinger.

We made the World News last night! Not mentioned by name of course, but that’s Independence Hall members and friends with Saving Hallowed Ground members in the very beginning with their GIANT 20’ x 30’ Flag!

Juneteenth is the holiday that recognizes when Union troops delivered the Emancipation Proclamation to the last known groups of enslaved people in Galveston, Texas. Celebrations have been a cultural moniker in Black communities since the first events in 1865.

In 2020, cries of racial justice and inequality prompted legislation that fortified Juneteenth as a federal holiday, for all Americans to celebrate a milestone event in Black American history.

Eliza Powel to Benjamin Franklin:
“What have we got, a republic or a monarchy?”, to which he reportedly replied, “A republic ... if you can keep it”.
