REEL Film Program

REEL Film Program REEL is an after school film program for high school students in the Bay Area. REEL is an immersive and hands on after school program for inner city youth.

We provide students the unique opportunity to produce a short film. Students will understand the power of filmmaking and how it can be used for advocacy and how filmmaking can shape the way we see the world. Our origin story begins in East Oakland. Anthonia Onyejekwe, our founder and CEO, grew up here amid the flourishing art and activism culture of Oakland that helped create a passion for filmma

king and storytelling. REEL would make it our mission to nurture that same passion in all our students in the Bay Area.

What a blast. We’re still recovering from all the fun, energy, and incredible moments from this year’s festival. Seeing our students screen their films, speak on stage, and celebrate with their families and community was truly special.

A huge thank you to The New Parkway Theatre, our amazing students, volunteers, partner schools, teaching artists, families, and everyone who came out to support REEL Film Fest 2026. This event would not be possible without you all.

Fun fact: Joy Ofodu (), our 2026 REEL Film Fest special guest — started her career blogging about her encounters with directors, producers, and actors while attending USC ✨

Since then, she’s gone on to work with brands like Disney, Netflix, Dove, Instagram, Facebook, Star Wars, and the NAACP Image Awards, while building a community of over 350K followers through her voiceover work, filmmaking, and podcast Dating Unsettled 🎬

We’ll also be screening her comedy short Heart of Sunshine at REEL Film Fest!

Even cooler: Boots has a new movie, , coming out May 22nd and we’re excited to see all the incredible work he continues to create.
