⚠️ For months, the City of San Jose has been planning to remove approximately 400 people living at Hedding field, while offering no safe or substantial alternatives for shelter. This is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS for this community, especially right now. This is predicted to be the harshest winter of the past decade, making it even more difficult for people to relocate. On top of that, the CDC guidelines strongly encourage against the moving of encampments during the COVID-19 pandemic unless in a dire emergency where health is risked.
🌧 The City is using the COVID-19 pandemic, inclimate weather conditions, lack of resources, and location instability to ABUSE its citizens. This UNDEVELOPED LAND is owned by the City of San Jose and there are rumors that it is being SOLD to a private corporation. We must all work together and do everything in our power to make sure this does not happen and these people are protected. If you’ve ever moved, you know you need lots of resources - most of which are inaccessible to this population.
❤️ So how can you help...?
We are looking for donations of the following resources:
-Moving supplies (ex. boxes, rope, tape, bubble wrap, and storage containers that animals can’t get into)
-Building supplies to repair and reinforce dwellings (ex. wood, nails, hammers, screws, and screw drivers)
-Cleaning supplies (ex. trash bags, shovels, and rakes)
-Food and personal items (ex. hot meals & care packages with items like socks, toothpaste/brushes, sanitary products, hand sanitizer/soap, PPE, etc.)
-Money donations for things like car maintenance, vehicle towing, and emergency housing.
DONATE to on Venmo and $BLACKOutreachSJ on CashApp.
