Something new and joyful took root at Children Rising this summer. ☀️

At our first Children Rising Family Festival, children and families gathered with tutors, volunteers, staff, and community partners for food, music, games, learning, and plenty of laughter.

More than anything, the day brought the Circle of Care together in one place—celebrating children’s growth and the relationships that help them keep learning.

What if every Oakland school we serve had a nearby faith or civic partner ready to listen, show up, and help?

Children Rising is renewing one of the ideas at the heart of our beginnings: connecting schools with caring community partners who can provide practical support beyond tutoring and family engagement.

Through a new School Wish List, school leaders tell us what would help most. Then we help connect those needs with churches, civic groups, businesses, and other community partners ready to respond.

See how this model is already flourishing at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary through its partnership with Resurrection Oakland Church.

40% of the families we serve speak Spanish or Arabic at home. That language barrier can make it hard to support learning or connect with teachers.

FamilyBridge meets families where they are—offering tools, coaching, and encouragement in the language they speak at home. When parents feel seen, supported, and equipped, their children thrive—at home and in school.
