Our Director of Portfolio, Eileen Dyer Jarnholt, recently went to Tanzania and shared this reflection on her travels:

"It had been eleven years since I lived in Tanzania during my PhD fieldwork in sustainable agricultural development, focusing on sugar and rice.

Coming back reminded me of the everyday realities many communities still face. The last time I was in Tanzania, it bothered me to rely on bottled water while many of my neighbors dealt with unsafe water sources.

This time, I came back to stand alongside local leaders who are improving access to safe water across the country."

We are grateful for each and every member of our team and their contributions to bring safe water to communities around the world.

Some things you can’t fully understand from a desk.

Tess Brodie, our Technical Services Program Manager, recently went to El Salvador and shared this reflection with our team:

"Visiting our partners in the field made my work feel real in a whole new way.

Water security stopped being a framework and became a woman turning on her tap at any hour of the day or night.

Technical assistance stopped being a line item and became real people, in real communities, gaining the tools and the credibility to invest in their own water future.

Coming back to my desk after the trip was hard. But learning that GWC was named a UN-Water Partner reminded me that our work behind the scenes is equally important as it is connected to a global effort to advance safe water for all."

We are grateful for colleagues like Tess and for the people who work each day to find solutions to the global water crisis.

You don’t have to be a water engineer to help end global water poverty.

Real, lasting change happens when people from all backgrounds engage, share knowledge, and work together across disciplines.

Whether you’re in research, policy, education, business, or simply passionate about equity—there’s a place for you in this work.

We believe stronger systems are built when more voices are connected. By amplifying insights, collaborating across sectors, and learning from one another, we can create solutions that last.

Global Water Center is partnering with UNICEF to expand expertise in operating solar-powered water systems worldwide.

“By sharing our expertise and supporting regional UNICEF Offices and their local partners, we can help ensure communities have reliable access to safe water,” said Thomas Johnston, CEO of GWC.

Through online and in-person trainings in English and French, local teams and water professionals are gaining the skills to design, install, and maintain systems that last.

This initiative strengthens local knowledge, improves system longevity, and ensures solar-powered water solutions continue delivering safe water for years to come.

What does real progress look like in the fight against global water poverty?

It looks like collaboration.

Ending water poverty takes local leaders, researchers, implementers, funders, and advocates working together to create approaches that are practical, scalable, and built to last.

Partnerships are at the heart of everything we do. We work to connect people, knowledge, and organizations across the sector because no single group can solve the global water crisis alone. But together, we can drive meaningful, lasting change.

Collaboration starts with connection.

👉 Tag an organization you admire that’s helping solve the global water crisis.

Let’s highlight the partners making a difference and grow this community of changemakers.
