65 Roses Day (6/5) is around the corner! Are you familiar with the “65 Roses” story?

The “65 Roses” story began in 1965 when a 4-year-old, hearing the name of his disease for the first time, pronounced cystic fibrosis as “65 Roses.” Today, it’s a term many children with CF still use to describe their disease. But making the disease easier to say doesn’t make it easier to live with.

With profound sadness, we share the passing of John Humphries - a remarkable leader, a fierce advocate, and a beloved member of our CF community in the Carolinas.

John’s impact on the North Carolina and South Carolina chapters is immeasurable. In North Carolina, John helped create Xtreme Hike, which is now one of the CF Foundation's signature fundraising programs. He effortlessly traded his trekking poles for a bowtie at Master Chefs and connected the Foundation to longtime corporate supporter Duke Energy.

As a South Carolina Board Member, Chair of SC's Xtreme Hike, and Congressional Captain, he led by example and inspired us all to push harder for the mission.

Yet, he was most proud of being a devoted father, grandfather, and a loving husband.

We have lost a true CF champion, and he will be missed immensely. His legacy of advocacy, kindness, and integrity will continue to guide us until it's done.
