John Irwin Finlay
Mr. John Irvin Finlay, known by all as “Speed”, age 81, of Cottageville, entered into rest Sunday morning, August 23, 2026, at his residence.
Born September 10, 1944 in Lewiston, Idaho, he was a son of the late John Arnold Finlay and the late Ruth Spencer Finlay. Speed was well-known for his love of motorcycles and his ability to work on them was unmatched.
He is survived by a daughter, Wendy Finlay Palmer; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and six great great grandchildren; a brother, James A. Finlay. He is also survived by countless friends in and outside of the motorcycle community. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Bob J. Finlay, Herbert Harry Finlay, Ron Frank Finlay, and Donald Edward Finlay.
A celebration of his life will be held at 12 noon, Sunday afternoon, September 6, 2026, at 2811 Peniel Road, Walterboro. If you have a motorcycle, you are encouraged to ride it to the event.
