For more than a century, the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology has helped shape the future of Israel itself. Through periods of growth, crisis, and change, its commitment to innovation and its values has remained unwavering, turning challenges into opportunities to build resilience for generations to come. That influence continues to grow through major collaborations with companies like Intel, Nvidia, Boeing, Israel Aerospace Industries, and more.

These partnerships reflect something rare: an institution whose connection to its country extends far beyond education, driving industries, strengthening society, and helping shape the technologies of the future.

Turns out “build something in your dorm room” is a very effective strategy. A new Andreessen Horowitz ranking puts the Technion in the world’s Top 10 universities for producing venture-backed startup founders. Over the past decade: ~783 startups and $23B raised. Not bad for a group that also has homework.

Israel is the only country outside the U.S. with two universities in the Top 10 because apparently one innovation ecosystem wasn’t enough. AI, cybersecurity, computer vision... you name it, Technion founders are building it.

Welcome to the Technion's version of Shark Tank 🦈

Every startup begins with a single slide deck and a bold idea. At our annual Pitch Night competition, student entrepreneurs stepped into the spotlight to pitch breakthrough startups tackling everything from women's health to sustainability and beyond. After months of refining their ideas, they had just minutes to convince a panel of judges that their vision could change the world, from a wearable patch that measures women’s hormones in real time to sustainable swimwear to Parkinson's treatments.

Which idea would you invest in?👇

What do a hairdryer and Israel’s future have in common? For Janet Shatz Snyder, it started with a visit to the Technion in her twenties, where she watched a professor demonstrate aerodynamics using nothing more than a hairdryer. That moment captured something she’s never forgotten: extraordinary innovation doesn’t always require extraordinary resources. Years later, Janet found a way to support the next generation of Technion breakthroughs while also securing income for herself through a charitable gift annuity. As Janet puts it: doing good and doing well don't have to be mutually exclusive.

We mourn the passing of Distinguished Professor Yitzhak Apeloig: pioneering chemist, visionary Technion president, and a leader who helped shape the future of Israeli science and innovation. His impact on the Technion and the global scientific community will be felt for generations.

May his memory be a tremendous blessing 🤍

We mourn the passing of Distinguished Professor Yitzhak Apeloig, president of the Technion from 2001 to 2009, world-renowned chemist, visionary leader, and beloved member of the Technion family.

Prof. Apeloig was a pioneer in computational chemistry and organosilicon chemistry whose scientific achievements earned him international recognition, prestigious awards, and membership in leading scientific academies around the world.

As president of the Technion, he led the institute through challenging years while advancing interdisciplinary research, expanding international collaborations, strengthening ties with industry, and helping shape the future of science and engineering in Israel.

Technion President Prof. Uri Sivan said that Prof. Apeloig led the Technion “with quiet confidence and steadfast leadership,” guiding it to new heights in research and global impact.

May his memory be a blessing.

His first mission was to help reclaim southern communities after October 7, moving house by house so families could one day return. Inside, he found traces of lives interrupted: burnt homes, bullet-riddled cars, and tables still set for a holiday. "You look at that table and pray that the army managed to reach the house before the enemy did,” N.M. said. Throughout his service, the Technion remained a "second reality" he clung to between missions: a steady anchor of study and future amid the demands of reserve duty. Even after the war, it continues to represent the life he is working to fully return to and rebuild.

Meet Gidon, the student turning Israel into his own personal LEGO set.

A fourth-year civil and environmental engineering student at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, Gidon is majoring in mapping and geo-information: a field where tech meets real-world impact. From using remote sensing to help farmers optimize water and fertilizer use, to mapping the land with precision, his work is all about making every square meter count.

His journey wasn’t straightforward. Growing up north of Jerusalem, he had to take the pre-University program and retake the psychometric test before finally earning a spot at the Technion. But perseverance paid off. Today, he’s on the Dean’s List, teaches labs, supports fellow students, and contributes to cutting-edge research in geospatial data.

Gidon is part of the 2026 Berger Visiting Fellows: a program showcasing the Technion’s brightest students who are driven to tackle the world’s biggest problems, even in the toughest of times.
