Building a world-leading institution for the next century means investing in people: the best researchers, educators, and students driving discovery forward. With one third of new faculty being women and expertise ranging across emerging and established fields, the Technion is strengthening the breadth of ideas shaping the future of science and technology. By bringing together talent from across Israeli society (including geographic, financial, and ethnic minority groups), the Technion functions as a true microcosm of inclusion and opportunity. This diversity is a driving force behind stronger research, deeper collaboration, and more meaningful innovation.

As this community grows, so does its impact: advancing discovery while expanding access, and reinforcing the Technion as both a global leader in science and a powerful engine of social mobility.

Long before the spotlight, Mayim Bialik was a Jewish kid growing up in San Diego, with family roots in the Bronx. Her family’s story began with Jewish immigrants from Poland, Czechoslovakia, and Hungary who built a life in New York before eventually making their way west. Even her name, which is Hebrew for “water,” was passed down from a family nickname, tying her to generations before her. She started as a child actress, but chose a different path, earning a degree in neuroscience with minors in Hebrew and Jewish studies, then going on to complete a PhD at UCLA. Along the way, her Jewish identity didn’t fade... it deepened. Open about her connection to Israel and her commitment to tradition, she’s lived at the intersection of innovation and heritage her entire life. That’s the same intersection where the Technion was built, where advancing the future and staying rooted in identity are part of the same mission.

That same idea shows up again every week in a different form. Shabbat is when the future pauses, and everything that came before it quietly returns ✨

His parents never had the chance to finish high school. No one in his family had studied engineering. Today, Dr. Majdi Gzal is a faculty member at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology.

Raised in Arraba, Majdi's journey reflects the Technion's enduring commitment to opening doors for talented students and researchers from every community in Israel. Throughout his life, teachers, mentors, donors, and family members recognized his curiosity and encouraged him to pursue his ambitions.

Now, after earning his PhD, conducting postdoctoral research abroad, and returning home with his wife and son, he's paying that opportunity forward. As an Arab scientist building his own laboratory at the Technion, he's pushing the boundaries of wave science while carrying forward the institution's founding belief that excellence is strengthened by the diversity of the people who pursue it. Stories like Majdi's remind us that when talent is given the chance to thrive, entire communities move forward.

Before Dr. Nadia Khir, there were no female Druze doctors in Israel.

At a time when Druze women were strongly discouraged from pursuing higher education, Nadia chose to study medicine anyway. Growing up in northern Israel, she had seen women avoid seeking medical care because they were uncomfortable being treated by male doctors. She knew something had to change.

By becoming Israel’s first female Druze doctor, Nadia didn’t just break a barrier for herself. She helped change what an entire generation of women believed was possible. Today, Arab Israelis, including Muslims, Christians, and Druze, are an increasingly prominent part of Israel’s medical workforce, and female Arab physicians are no longer outliers. That impact continues through Dr. Khir’s own family, where the next generation is carrying her pioneering spirit forward at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology.
