Developing Faces was founded in 2014 by Dr. Robert Morin and co-founder Sue Kim. Dr. Robert Morin is a highly trained board certified plastic surgeon based in New York City. After donating his time to other missions, he decided to start his own charity in order to improve the quality of care that was given on the missions that he went on. Developing Faces hosted their first fundraiser Gala at Gild

ed Lily in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District. The first surgical mission to Guatemala was taken in March 2015. The surgical team successfully completed 28 complicated surgeries on small children and babies with facial abnormalities. These abnormalities included ear microtia, bilateral cleft lip, and bilateral cleft palate. The second annual Developing Faces fundraiser was held in the Meatpacking District on October 22, 2015. Developing Faces plans to take their second surgical mission to Guatemala in 2016.

Our Story

Developing Faces is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that provides high quality surgical care to babies and young children living in developing countries around the world. The organization was cofounded in 2014 by Dr. Robert Morin, a highly trained board certified plastic surgeon based in New York City. After donating his time to other missions, he decided to start his own charity in order to improve the quality of care that was given on the missions that he went on. Developing Faces has completed multiple successful surgical mission trips to Guatemala, where there is a high need for surgical care. On each mission trip, a highly trained and skilled team of New York and New Jersey plastic surgeons, pediatric recovery room and scrub nurses, a pediatric anesthesiologist and administrative staff is carefully chosen by the leader of the mission. The team travels to Guatemala for a week, providing operations for approximately thirty babies and children with severe deformities on each trip.

The Developing Faces’s surgeons each specialize in their own fields, including craniofacial plastic surgery, pediatric neurosurgery, and general surgery. The nurses that travel with the doctors have been carefully chosen after proving there expertise in the operating rooms back home. Developing Faces works hard to ensure that the care we provide is the same standard of care a parent could expect in a top hospital in the United States.

In addition to providing high quality surgical care on missions, the Developing Faces’s team trains local Guatemalan surgeons throughout the week. This training enables the local surgeons to broaden and improve the after care they provide to the Developing Faces patients after the team leaves. The training also improves the level of care they know how to give to patients throughout their lifetime, and the training they will give to people they teach. None of the Developing Faces’s officers or team members are paid for the work they do, meaning 100% of your funds will go straight towards helping the children. Funds are used to help pay for surgical supplies, medications, hospital fees for after care and other necessary medical expenses.
