Korean K9 Rescue We’re a 501(c)(3) creating a better future for homeless and mistreated dogs in South Korea. We are a group of volunteers in New York City.

We work in partnership with local and regional South Korean dog rescues/activists and high kill shelters. Many of our dogs come from the brutal dog meat trade and are also puppy mill survivors. None of these dogs will get adopted in their homeland of South Korea because of the stigma of "mixed" dogs. So we bring them to New York City for a second chance at a loving forever home. We are also workin

g to end the dog meat trade in Korea where over 2.5 million dogs a year are tortured and slaughtered for consumption because of the belief that tortured dog meat gives medicinal benefits. Our Movement is creating awareness and pressure on the South Korean to put an end to this brutal trade. We stand with the Korean animal activist and rescuers in Korea. This handsome red fox is Aru - he’s 4 years old and 33lbs, and likely a nice mix of Jindo and Shiba. Rescued from the wildfires last year in South Korea, Aru has the scars to prove it but you’d never guess what he’s been through with his personality. This guy is sweet, loving, and simply happy to hang out!

Aru can be quiet and a bit reserved at first as he gets to know people. Don’t let the calm fool you though, once he’s warmed up he’s playful and silly! He’s a nice balance of cool and dorky and will definitely keep people on their toes. His favorite part of his days are his walks and exploring new terrain. He’s easy on the leash and loves inspecting anything green or moving.

This guy is also eligible for our Jindo Journey training stipend! This means Aru’s adopters could receive $300 towards their required training - a perfect way to start off on a good note as he acclimates into the family.

He’ll be waiting to meet you this weekend - if he seems uninterested, it’s probably just the Shiba in him, so don’t take it personally!

Sometimes rescue isn’t everything we hope it will be, but we have to do what we can, whenever we can.

With an ongoing spay/neuter clinic at the center, and Phillip’s find in Paju, the weekend just kept on giving. 50 miles in the opposite direction from the center (100 miles from Paju) in Cheonan, South Korea, a young family needed our help - stat.

A foreigner working in the area claimed he had been feeding a mama dog, who had given birth six weeks prior. He sent our team photos and videos of mom, a dog he named Kumon, and her potato sized pups. Without notice as we figured out logistics, the owner of Kumom ended up giving away all of the young puppies before we could arrive to take them. Poor mama Kumon was left alone, full of milk, and still malnourished despite this worker’s ‘care.’ � �We can only assume well intent, but six weeks is far too young for both mom and pups to part ways. With the shocking news and change of intake plan, we had to put our focus on Kumon. Not only was she malnourished and mourning the sudden loss of her babies, but she’s now tested positive for Erlichia, Heartworm, and anaplasma. This means she’ll need to get her strength up quickly to get the care needed for each parasite. Her journey to good health will be a long one, but she deserves to live happy and free just as anyone.

It’s truly incredible to see how trusting she is with anyone she meets. You can tell she doesn’t completely understand what’s going on, but she remains calm and accepts things as they come. Our team was even able to lift her into the crate without a smidge of struggle.

We are hopeful that somehow her babies make it back and find a way to us, and will continue to monitor the area they were kept. For now though, Kumon needs us and we need your support.

Sometimes rescue isn’t everything we hope it will be, but we have to do what we can, whenever we can.

Look out, handsome boy coming through!

Byeol Yang is 2 years old and 45lbs of sleek legginess. Lanky guy is happy to be included and was quite the popular kid at our center in Bundang! He originally was rescued from the euthanasia list at the Siheung City Shelter as just a young pup (and yes, we have the puppy photos)!

He definitely enjoyed socializing at the clurb (we mean training center…) but now it’s his time to shine in the big city and find his forever family. He’s just as charming as he looks and once he’s decided you’re in, will cover you in kisses and sheepishly wiggle his body around you. Though he can be a little shy at first, his love for affection and play makes it easy to befriend him!

B-Yang is working on his crate training, but has otherwise mastered the apartment lifestyle! He will happily enjoy being curled up by your feet or snuggled up next to you while you work from home - just don’t forget to factor in some play time! With how eager to please he is and his drive to show off his fun side, training with him will absolutely be a blast and we can’t wait to see it!

As an added bonus, B-Yang is eligible for our Jindo Journey training stipend! Thanks to a generous donor, his adopters could receive $300 towards their required training package to help offset the cost and get everyone started on the path to long term success!

Rescuers truly never stop working, and somehow the ones in need always find a way to us.

Our Bundang manager was out for a normal day of hiking through Paju, a city just south of the North Korean border. Along the hike, he heard a sound he knows far too well. A puppy crying in distress somewhere close by. He and his dogs followed the sound to the edge of a ravine where they found the smallest terrier pup trying with all of his might to scale the edge. He knew first hand how strained our resources are and how many dogs we have at our center, but was he supposed to leave this one? Would someone else save the dog if he didn’t?

As soon as he managed to get the puppy up the edge of the ravine, he raced straight to the animal hospital. Little guy needed fluids immediately as he was dehydrated, and continued support for malnourishment and a crazy amount of internal parasites. We will spare you the details there. He’s also confirmed positive for tick borne disease and very anemic, but such a trooper!

We know our supporters would have done the same as our facility manager - it was the only right thing to do. Little man is still at the hospital being monitored and taken care of; but we need your help with the rising bill that no one anticipated.

Any contribution, any support, words of encouragement, share - it all helps us get that much closer to continuing our mission so we can keep saving dogs like this one.

Nervous about what to expect when bringing home a new friend? Fear no more! Our Foster-to-Adopt program is perfect for you!

FTA applicants pick up their potential forever friend from our office the day they arrive. With full support from our team, you’ll have an entire week to bond and see if it’s the right fit for you and the pup. We’ll even supply fresh food courtesy of !

Not sure at the end of the week? No harm no foul! We just ask you keep fostering for a minimum three weeks.

Our center in Bundang is still over capacity and our teams’ focus and energy has been spent on Operation 1M and our spay and neuter clinics; But we couldn’t turn a blind eye this weekend.

Just this weekend, our team was pulled in three directions while juggling their already tremendous workload at the center. We’re doing what we can, the dogs from each location are safe and healing, but we need the help of our supporters. The dogs we saved this weekend are all malnourished, neglected, and infested with parasites. We’ve quickly moved them to an animal hospital for care, but the bills are just as quickly adding up.

Five dogs need us and we won’t say no. These dogs need your help too, any amount, any attention, anything to further the care for these dogs and our mission to stop the suffering is so appreciated. We really couldn’t do this without each and everyone of our supporters. It takes a village, and we’re grateful for ours.

Reina is truly the Queen of Goldens - she’s 5 years old and a dainty 55lbs! She came to us in one of our spay/neuter clinics in South Korea, where we’ve been helping the overpopulation crisis by spaying/neutering dogs kept outside in the countryside. Occasionally when we help a family, they decide to surrender to give their dog a better life. Lucky for Reina, her former family knew she deserved royalty treatment. 

Golden girls do it best and Reina is no exception. Of course she’s just happy to be included and will have her classic golden smile even in the most mundane settings. When lounging around the house with her foster family, she often stares lovingly at them like there is no bad in the world. She loves a good bake in the sun and carries her chew toys around like a toddler with a dolly. Seriously, Reina makes our hearts flutter she’s so sweet!

Reina is very curious but slightly overwhelmed so far when exploring the busy city, so she’ll need consistent guidance in the beginning. Learning the NYC hustle isn’t easy for such a mellow girlie! She also would benefit from continued crate training to make sure she doesn’t get TOO attached to her humans ;)

Myongwang is absolutely the silliest pup we’ve seen in a while and photos only capture a fraction of her goofy personality! She’s two years old and a noodle shaped 35lbs. Don’t let that number fool you, she’s linguine, not rigatoni!

Though she is still adjusting to the big city, Myongwang’s curiosity is through the roof. She’s already figured out the lay of the land in her foster home and now inspects anything unfamiliar as much as she can. Silly girl still has a lot to learn about - she was caught grumbling at her own reflection in a mirror just yesterday. Her crate training and house training is going well, but she’s still building up confidence outside. With plenty of practice and encouragement she’ll be walking the neighborhood like it’s a runway in no time.

By the hour, she continues to show more and more of her character and truly has her fosters laughing at every new thing. From her long tongue that seems to have a mind of its own, to her polite demands for pets, she will definitely be the highlight of any home.
