22 QSAP students from more than 10 states and universities across the U.S. came together in New York City for a four-day conference as part of the Qatar Connections Civic Engagement Fellowship at Bard College’s Brooklyn campus.

From education and mentorship to mental health, digital safety and women’s empowerment, fellows presented projects designed to address needs in their communities.

This is Afghan youth 🌟

They came to the U.S. after 2021 to pursue their bachelor's or master's degrees and settle in their new home. What they all share is pride in how far they've come, and in using what they've learned to give back to their communities.

Today, at the Qatar Connection Civic Engagement Conference, they are sharing the projects they've built to support others and create change. 🌍

This is what Afghanistan's youth achieves when they have access to education and opportunity.

Four days left!

The America's Allies Scholarship Program closes July 27 at 11:59 PM. It helps covers tuition and fees for Afghan and Iraqi Special Immigrant Visa holders enrolled in a U.S. degree or certificate program.

Most of our applicants are people who already did the hardest version of this. They learned English under contract and rebuilt households in a country they'd only seen from afar. A classroom is not the hard part.

Coming to the United States through the SIV program was a big change in my life, full of hope, but also full of challenges. As a husband, father of four kids, and student, we had to start over in a new country, learning everything from language to culture while trying to build a stable future for my family.

When I received the SIV scholarship, it felt like a door had opened for me. It gave me the chance to continue my education at Sacramento City College, where I’m studying in the Mechanical-Electrical Technology (MET) and HVAC Building Automation Systems program. This support has allowed me to focus on my studies instead of worrying about how to pay for school supplies or tuition. Every class I take brings me closer to achieving my dream of becoming a skilled technician and providing a better life for my children.

The scholarship has reminded me that there are people who care about students like me, who understand how hard we work to build a new life. That encouragement gives me strength and motivation to keep going, even when things are difficult.

I’m deeply thankful to the donors and supporters who make this program possible.

Nasrat, a recipient of funding from the America's Allies Scholarship Program in 2025, earned straight A's in his first semester at Sacramento City College, all while learning in a new language and supporting his family.
Applications just opened up for the 2026 round of the AASP. Available to Afghan and Iraqi allies with Special Immigrant Visas, the AASP helps support those in need as they work towards building the skills and knowledge needed to thrive within the American economy.
