We are a community of women and nonbinary writers—educators, editors, poets, novelists, playwrights, journalists, literary agents, publishers, and more—on a mission. Since 1998 we’ve provided guidance, support, and opportunities for New York City's high school girls to develop their creative, independent voices, explore careers in professional writing, and learn how to make healthy choices in school, career, and life.

A Friday Night Salon is part author talk, part writing workshop, and part creative gathering—and we love them for that. ✨

Last week, Meghan Rabbitt joined us for an inspiring conversation about women’s health, the journey behind The New Rules of Women’s Health, and the stories we carry in our bodies. The audience left with fresh perspective from thoughtful writing prompts and a reminder that their experiences matter.

Swipe through to explore a few of the prompts from the evening, and keep an eye on our events page for more Friday Night Salons coming up this summer. We can't wait to write with you. 💛

Women are too often taught to downplay pain, question their instincts, and stay quiet about what they need. We’re changing that conversation.

At this Friday Night Salon, longtime Girls Write Now mentor and supporter Meghan Rabbitt, author of The New Rules of Women’s Health, will guide us through the power of self-advocacy—helping us build the language, confidence, and clarity to speak up for our health ❤️‍🩹

Join us for an evening of reflection, connection, and reclaiming one of our most powerful tools: our voices. Open to the public, including GWN Mentors, Mentees, and Members: https://buff.ly/aR0QeX2

We’re still thinking about the incredible conversation we had last month with the team behind ASK E. JEAN — and now, we can’t wait to see the film on the big screen. 📽️

On April 24, we had the pleasure of hosting a Friday Night Salon with the film’s Director and Producer, Ivy Meeropol, and Editor, Ferne Pearlstein, who gave us an inside look at the making of the documentary. We’re excited to see it all come together at the IFC Center this weekend!

ASK E. JEAN dives into the life of E. Jean Carroll, a trailblazing writer, razor-sharp humorist, and the only woman to defeat Donald J. Trump in court. Twice. Directed by Ivy Meeropol, the film is as funny as it is furious, as personal as it is political. It’s about survival, reinvention, and what it takes to stand your ground when the stakes couldn’t be higher.

Premiering at NYC's IFC Center, May 21–28 with special filmmaker Q&As opening weekend: https://buff.ly/WgY1NAa

Stories can change lives, and every young writer deserves the chance to tell theirs 💛 The Lena Dunham Fund for Girls Write Now is rooted in a simple belief: when young people are given the tools, encouragement, and community to tell their stories, incredible things happen.

If Girls Write Now’s mission speaks to you, we hope you’ll consider donating—and sharing this with someone who believes in the power of young voices, too. Every contribution helps open the door for the next generation of writers ✍️
