Today we’re making it official: School Lunch is Healthcare. 🩺 The Urban School Food Alliance is launching a new initiative that connects school meals with preventive healthcare — and welcoming our first-ever Medical Advisor, Dr. Manasa Mantravadi.

For 3.8 million students in our Alliance schools, the cafeteria is one of the most consistent sources of daily nutrition. Healthy school meals support better learning, stronger focus, healthier habits, and long-term wellness.

This is just the start. A free educational video series is in the works and will be available on our website later this fall.

🌱 This Local Producer Webinar, hosted by USFA, is open to anyone - but will be especially insightful for those in the state of Mississippi. The event is co-hosted by the Mississippi Farm to School Network AND Desoto County Schools Child Nutrition Program.

The webinar will give an overview of school food procurement and introduce producers to school districts as potential revenue streams from their operations.

On behalf of USFA's Executive Director, Dr. Katie Wilson and the USFA Board of Directors, we are pleased to announce that after a nationwide search, Jeremy West, MS, SNS has been selected as the next Executive Director for The Alliance effective January 2027.

Jeremy has served USFA as the Chief of Operations for the past six years and brings 20 years of experience in child nutrition having served in school nutrition leadership roles in three districts in Colorado.
