Today, we came together with a diverse coalition of tenants and elected officials at City Hall to call for an expansion of SCRIE and DRIE 📣🏡💪

Intro. 978 would raise the income eligibility cap for these vital rent freeze programs from $50,000 to $75,000, helping more older adults and disabilities New Yorkers stay in their homes.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and shared their stories and support. We’re calling on the City Council to pass Intro. 978 and make sure more New Yorkers can afford to stay in their homes.

Community Spotlight: Kelly

Kelly has called his Greenwich Village apartment home for nearly 60 years. He is a longtime T&N member, valued community neighbor, and caretaker of the pigeons of Washington Square Park. 🐦

Thanks in part to SCRIE, Kelly has been able to remain in the home and community he’s known for decades.

For Kelly, community means having the time and opportunity to build relationships with the people (and pigeons!) around you.

As Kelly puts it: “My late-afternoon hour spent feeding and communing with the Washington Square Park gang of pigeons is a unique daily odyssey…”

Tomorrow, September 18, join us alongside tenants and elected officials at City Hall as we call for the expansion of SCRIE and DRIE.

Tenants won a huge victory from the Rent Guidelines Board last week—all rent-stabilized lease renewals will have a 0% increase from 10/1/26–9/30/27❗️ If you aren’t sure if you live in a rent-stabilized apartment, text TANDN to 855-610-2450 to request your rent history.

Big shout out to our member Desmond and his neighbor Tony who were interviewed by Reuters at the RGB Preliminary Vote last week and spoke about the need for a rent rollback! The rent is already too damn high!! 📣
