75 years ago, delegates from 26 countries gathered in Geneva in the aftermath of World War II, a conflict that had killed millions and forced countless others to flee to find safety. There, they signed the Refugee Convention. This document laid the foundations of modern refugee law, and guaranteed that no one fleeing persecution should be forced back into danger.

That framework has helped tens of millions to rebuild their lives, reunite with families and contribute to the communities that welcome them. But today, collapsing humanitarian funding, shrinking resettlement, and a wave of governments turning away people seeking protection are undermining the convention's core promise.

Yet as conflict, natural disaster and other humanitarian crises have shown us in the past, anyone can become a refugee. And everyone is deserving of a safe home.

Join us in marking this milestone and affirming the values it represents: dignity, protection, and the belief that seeking safety should never be a crime.
