Share your ideas. Make a difference in The Bronx. Join the Bronx Council on the Arts (BCA) and NYC’s Civic Engagement Commission (CEC) for an Idea Generation Workshop to help shape how $4 million in city funding is spent!

As part of The People’s Money, NYC’s citywide participatory budgeting process, you’ll learn how it works, share your community’s needs and priorities, and develop ideas for programs or services that could receive funding.

BCA's Artist Sustainability Workshop Series (ASWS) is back this fall with From Application to Award: A Grant Strategy Series for Artists. This three-part workshop series supports artists in developing a strategic approach to grant seeking—from building a compelling application and creating a financially sound project budget to managing a grant award and cultivating funder relationships. Through practical tools, strategic guidance, and an artist-led case study, participants will strengthen their ability to articulate their work, plan for resources, successfully execute funded projects, and position themselves for future funding opportunities.

Join us in person in BCA's Flex Space (2700 East Tremont Avenue, Bronx, NY, 10461) for this free workshop series on Thursdays, October 8, 15, and 22, 2026, from 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM.

✍️ BRONX MEMOIR PROJECT WORKSHOP SERIES
The Bronx Memoir Project (BMP) Workshop Series continues with Mapping Your Memoir: Non-Linear Storytelling for Memoir Writers led by Amy Gottlieb. Through close reading and discussion, participants will explore techniques that will inspire a memoir through the use of juxtaposition, lyrical association, and reflection.

Participants will reflect on their own origins and experiences, gather imagery from Governors Island, and create an original drawing to transfer onto linoleum or Speedy Carve.

Strategic Project Budgeting: Aligning Your Vision with Financial Strategy
with Chanelle Aponte Pearson (she/they)

A strong project needs more than a great idea—it needs a budget that clearly communicates how that vision can come to life.

In this workshop, Chanelle will guide artists through building realistic, strategic project budgets, covering income, expenses, labor and material costs, overhead, contingency planning, and different budget scenarios. Participants will also explore how budgeting can support grant applications, project planning, and long-term sustainability.

A Bronx-bred filmmaker, film instructor, and filmmaker advocate, Chanelle Aponte Pearson brings more than 15 years of experience as an independent producer and director creating award-winning narrative, documentary, and experimental work. Their narrative directorial debut, 195 LEWIS, won Best Breakthrough Short Form Series at the 2018 Gotham Awards and was recognized at the World Pride Black Q***r Film Festival in 2025.

Chanelle currently serves as Programs Manager at the Bronx Council on the Arts and teaches film at DCTV. They are also executive producer of THE CO-OP: THE KIDS OF DORIE MILLER, a feature-length documentary exploring New York City’s ongoing affordable housing crisis.

We’re pleased to share an important update regarding grant funding for artists across New York City.

Earlier today, Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA) Commissioner Diya Vij announced an increase to the maximum grant funding available to artists through their regranting partners, including the Bronx Council on the Arts (BCA).

As a longtime regranting partner of DCLA, BCA has supported Bronx artists through programs such as our Community Engagement Grants (CEGs) and the Bronx Recognizes Its Own (BRIO) Awards. With this adjustment, eligible artists may now receive grants of up to $10,000, an increase from the previous $5,000 maximum. This marks the first increase to our city-funded grants to artists and organizations in nearly 20 years.

💃🏽 BRONX DANCE FUND (BDF) IS BACK!

Applications for the 2027 Bronx Dance Fund (BDF) are now opened! BDF supports the artists and organizations shaping the field of dance across the borough.

Through grants of up to $8,000, the fund provides general operating or project-based support for Bronx-based dancers, choreographers, and dance organizations. Funding can support everything from capacity building and training to professional development and production. BDF prioritizes early-career dance artists and BIPOC-led organizations.

Whether you're developing new work, building your practice, strengthening your organization, or bringing a project to life, this fund is designed to help support the next steps.
