The Public Advocate serves as New York City's watchdog and ombudsman—investigating public complaints, monitoring city agencies, and introducing/co-sponsoring legislation in the City Council. They also appoint members to city boards, sit on key commissions (budget, planning, etc.), and stand first in line to succeed the Mayor if needed!
