Twenty-five years later, we continue to carry their memory with us and reflect on the courage, compassion, resilience, and unity that brought New Yorkers and our nation together.

What an amazing day celebrating our Back to School Event and the 3rd Anniversary of La Jara Band Way!
A huge thank you to Council Member Amanda Farías, NYPD, U.S. Army, Honda of the Bronx, Bronx Council of arts and all of our wonderful community partners and community members who joined us and helped make this day so special.
We are grateful to everyone who continues to support our students, families, and the Westchester Square community.

At Westchester Square, we are lucky to have a high number of small businesses that have been in existence for over 10 years, but every now and then we find a few that have lasted for decades.

One such business is Ljubo’s Pizza located at 15 Westchester Square. The owner, Ljubo “Lou” Kocovic, has been serving sizable slices of pizza to the community for over 40 years. Head on over to the Square to get your hands on these substantial slices today!

As America celebrates its 250th Anniversary, we at Westchester Square are proud to share a story that reminds us that our community has been part of our nation’s history from the very beginning.

Check out this brief history lesson from the official Bronx Borough Historian, and President of the Huntington Free Library and Reading Room, Angel Hernandez.

Nearly 250 years ago, the people of this small community came together alongside the Continental Army to help slow the advance of British forces, giving General George Washington and his troops the time they needed to retreat safely to White Plains. Their determination and courage during what has come to be known as the Battle at Westchester Creek became an important part of the American Revolution.

Today, we honor the sacrifices of those who came before us and celebrate the enduring spirit of Westchester Square…a community built on resilience, unity, and pride.

From our community to yours, we wish you a safe and joyful 4th of July.

🚨 Deadline Approaching: July 1, 2026 🚨

In accordance with City Council Law 75 (passed in 2009), roll-down security grilles installed after July 1, 2011 at storefront businesses located on a sidewalk must provide at least 70% visibility by July 1, 2026.

Solid, closed-off security grilles make our streets darker and less inviting. Requiring 70% visibility helps keep our neighborhoods safer, brighter, and more welcoming for everyone.

This law applies to buildings classified as: • Occupancy Group B (Business)
• Occupancy Group M (Mercantile)

Please check your Certificate of Occupancy. For a full list of business types included in Occupancy Groups B and M, refer to NYC Building Code (BC) 304.

If your roll-down gate was installed after July 1, 2011, you must come into compliance by July 1, 2026.
