Congratulations to Serena Tsao ’28 and Chloe Comisarow ’28, the 2026 Genes in Space National Winners! Their experiment was selected from a record-breaking 980 applications.

Genes in Space challenges students to design experiments that explore the challenges of space travel. Serena and Chloe’s proposal examines how stress-related changes in astronauts’ microbiomes could increase the risk of kidney stones.

Now, the two will work with mentors at New England Biolabs and miniPCR bio to prepare their experiment for the International Space Station, where an astronaut will conduct it over the coming year.

Serena and Chloe shared, “We feel out of this world that our brainchild is going to be sent to the International Space Station.”

Alumni, we can't have Project Accepted without at least 10 MORE OF YOU!

Project Accepted brings alumni and seniors together for 1:1 practice college interviews, which give students the chance to build confidence, strengthen their interview skills, and learn from someone who once stood exactly where they do now. And our seniors need you!

We hope to conduct more than 800 individual interviews this year, and we cannot make that happen without you. Just one conversation can make a meaningful difference for a Bronx Science senior as they navigate their college journeys.

Join us on Sunday, September 27 either in person at Bronx Science or virtually. We would love to have you be part of it.

We could still use about 10 more interviewers and especially could use alumni of these schools:
Brown
Columbia
Cornell
MIT
NYU
UPenn

Date: Sunday, September 27, 2026
Time: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. ET
Place: Bronx Science or VIRTUAL

Register online at alumni.bxscience.edu/events.

Alumni, we need your help!

The biggest challenge for the Bronx Science Speech & Debate Team is finding judges, and last year we needed more than 750!

We are counting on alumni as much as possible to meet our judging obligations at every tournament this year, which include a mix of local tournaments in New York City, competitions across the country and even virtual tournaments. Please rally your friends and come volunteer together!
