Exciting news 📚✨ We’re proud to be a 2026 general operating grant awardee of the Literary Arts Fund!

Their support is a wonderful acknowledgment of our efforts to foster dialogue among authors and readers through our free literary festival and programming.

At a time when it is needed most, this grant will have a great impact on our mission to celebrate published literature and nurture a literary cultural community and is deeply appreciated.

Many thanks to the Literary Arts Fund for recognizing the importance of non-profits that serve creative writers.

We are elated that author Yáng Shuāng-zǐ and translator Lin King won the International Booker Prize 2026 for Taiwan Travelogue — the first novel originally written in Mandarin to receive the prestigious award for fiction translated into English.

Yáng Shuāng-zǐ and Lin King joined us at the 20th Brooklyn Book Festival for “Disruptive Love,” a panel featuring international authors discussing love in its most complex forms, including the award-winning book’s depiction of the disrupted intimacy between a young traveler and her interpreter in Japanese-controlled Taiwan.

“Can a machine have taste?”

The Brooklyn Book Festival and NYU 370 Jay Project were thrilled to host Machines & Music, a conversation with Liz Pelly (Mood Machine) and David Hajdu (The Uncanny Muse), moderated by Dan Charnas.

The discussion explored the history of machines in music from automata, synthesizers and sampling to the present impact of Spotify and generative AI on today’s music landscape. If you joined us, we’d love to hear your thoughts!

2025 marked our 20th Anniversary of presenting free literary events for book lovers in Brooklyn and beyond. Guided by our founding credo of "hip, smart, and diverse", this year was such a joy to organize and present over all nine days. We had great weather, wonderfu programmingl partners and vendors, and a lovely crowd of readers at all of our events.

As this year comes to a close, we can't wait to see you in 2026!

We have exciting news to share! The Brooklyn Book Festival is one of 60 organizations across New York State to be recognized with a NYSCA Reserve Fund Grant from (NYSCA) and (NYFA).

This grant is an important part of building a strong, sustainable future for the Brooklyn Book Festival. Now, our goal is to further grow that fund. If an unpredictable challenge comes our way (remember the hurricane winds in 2022?), a reserve gives us the means to recover from unexpected losses and continue to bring free, accessible, and inspiring literary programs to all five boroughs of NYC and beyond!
