Every May, the Administration for Community Living (ACL) leads the nation’s observance of Older Americans Month (OAM), a time to recognize older Americans' contributions, highlight aging trends, and reaffirm commitments to serving the older adults in our communities. The 2024 theme is Powered by Connection, which recognizes the profound impact that meaningful relationships and social connections have on our health and well-being.

I am so excited about this milestone that the American Cancer Society (ACS) launched; VOICES of Black Women.

I have prayed since November 2007 for someone to look at breast cancer and all cancers different in the lives of black women (black people), finally the American Cancer Society (ACS) is listening.

We are all familiar with ACS (like Making Strides) for the walks we take to fight this horrible disease, but after we finish walking, and take off our sneakers ACS is still working hard behind the scenes to promote Health equity for all women (all people).
But, they can't do it alone. They need our help. How can you help, you may ask?

By becoming an activist and joining the Study, or becoming
a Health Equity Ambassador like myself.

Please, don't say no before you learn more about why it should be you.
Please consider if you have lost a loved one from this disease or know someone who has had this disease.
If you are a Black woman between the ages of 25 to 55 and live in one of the states listed below.

VOICES of Black Women is a long-term study led by the American Cancer Society that aims to enroll at least 100,000 Black women in the US over the next few years. The goal of this study is to better understand health conditions like cancer and how to improve overall health among Black women.

Black women between the ages of 25 and 55 years who have not had cancer (except for basal or squamous cell skin cancer).

Study enrollment is currently available for those living in select U.S. states*.
*AL, CA, FL, GA, IL, LA, MA, MD, MI, MO, MS, NC, NJ, NY, OH, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA, and Washington D.C.
