The Knickerbocker Avenue Merchants Association (“KAMA”) is a non-profit, non-partisan group of committed neighborhood businesses and business leaders alike in the Bushwick, Brooklyn section of New York that gathers in an effort to promote the economic and social interests of merchant members within and without the Bushwick community and, further, to provide an essential voice for their businesses to the local governing authorities.

At a prior Community meeting and raised concerns regarding the transportation of radiologically-contaminated soil from the Wolff-Alport Chemical Company Superfund site on . Initially, it was our understanding that the EPA was going to transport this radiologically contaminated material along Knickerbocker Avenue’s heavily-trafficked residential and commercial corridor. As work is set to begin in late May, our Community’s concerns were addressed and the EPA has seemingly re-routed the transportation route to avoid altogether. This is a big win for our Community!!!

As this is still a major concern for our Community, please make a notation of the transportation routes and take precautions. Although EPA has assured our Community that the transportation of this material is relatively safe and contained with safeguards in place to protect our Community, and precautions taken are never a bad thing! Any and all concerns should be addressed to the EPA contacts on the attached flyers or your respective elected Officials.
