This week we honor MARY SEACOLE 🇯🇲 — the Jamaican nurse and healer who traveled to the Crimean War in 1854 and built the British Hotel to care for wounded soldiers when the army turned her away. She brewed herbal remedies, dressed wounds, and became known as Mother Seacole to the troops. Long before modern nursing took shape, a Caribbean woman was already on the front lines of care. Good morning, family! Pull up a chair — three big issues on the table this week:

1️⃣ TPS for Haiti. Around 350,000 Haitian nationals are waiting to hear if their protected status will be extended, and a Senate bill that would save it (S. 4814) is stalled. Caregivers, construction workers, business owners — real people in limbo.

2️⃣ Public charge fears. Proposed rule changes could count Medicaid and SNAP against immigrants, so families in mixed-status households are skipping care and food help they're legally entitled to. Fear shouldn't be the policy.

3️⃣ Health coverage costs. With ACA subsidies phased out, premiums have jumped — one more squeeze on budgets already stretched thin by the cost of living.
