Today, the NYS Department of Taxation & Finance hosted a solemn remembrance of the lives lost on September 11, 2001 — including five members of our CSEA family who went to work at the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance in the World Trade Center and never came home.
Twenty-five years later, we continue to say their names, honor their memories and remind the world that they will never be forgotten. The five CSEA members were among the 40 New York State Department of Taxation and Finance employees who perished on 9/11.
At today’s memorial ceremony, Gov. Kathy Hochul delivered remarks by video, joining union leaders, colleagues, retirees, family members and friends in honoring those we lost.
Among those offering remarks were Acting Commissioner Amanda Hiller, CSEA Region 2 Taxation and Finance Local President Felicia McCollough, PEF President Wayne Spence and American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten.
The ceremony also included the solemn reading of the names of those Department of Taxation and Finance employees who perished, ensuring that every life and every memory continues to be carried forward.
But for our CSEA family, we especially remember:
Yvette Anderson.
Florence Cohen.
Harry Goody.
Marian “Marty” Hrycak.
Dorothy Temple.
They were more than names. They were our union sisters and brothers. They were public employees, colleagues, friends and loved ones. Their absence was felt then, and their memory remains with us today.
As long as we live, they too will live; for they are now a part of us, as we remember them.
We will never forget.
