Through play, children build creativity, critical thinking, empathy and resilience — and in emergencies, play helps children process trauma, restore a sense of normalcy and find joy when everything around them feels uncertain.

Yet, millions of children around the world still lack safe spaces to play, and 1 in 7 children under age 5 don't have toys or playthings at home.

UNICEF works to change that — in schools, refugee camps, disaster zones and communities across the world.

Is social media bad for kids' mental health? The answer is more nuanced than you might think.

According to the American Psychological Association, it's not how much time kids spend on social media that matters most — it's how they're using it.

Active, intentional use like messaging friends, sharing interests and feeling connected to a community is linked to better mental health outcomes.

But passive scrolling and comparing yourself to others? That's where stress tends to creep in.
