UNICEF Next Generation

UNICEF Next Generation We are a group of young leaders who are passionate about helping children around the world and who have joined together to support UNICEF’s work.

UNICEF Next Generation is a group of young professionals ages 21 through 40 who are committed to doing whatever it takes to save children's lives. When we were born, 36,000 children died every day from preventable causes; now 18,000 do. NextGen is taking action to reduce that number to zero. Our members study issues that affect children around the world and choose UNICEF projects to support throug

h education, advocacy and fundraising. By supporting UNICEF’s work, we are creating a world that is healthier and safer than the one we were born into. NextGen was an initiative started by the U.S. Fund for UNICEF with Jenna Bush Hager, a UNICEF Young Leadership Ambassador. Now in its fourth year, Next Gen has already raised over $4 million for UNICEF programs worldwide. UNICEF believes in a world where there are ZERO starving children, ZERO children are denied an education and ZERO children are without clean water. This relentless conviction has propelled UNICEF to help save more children’s lives than any humanitarian organization in the world. If you believe in ZERO, we need you to join us. There are solutions that will save and protect children, and we need your help to make them a reality.

"The water was not good to drink, even for animals, but this is all we had," says 11 year old Asiya in Afghanistan about the river 2.5 miles away that her family used as a water source.

Clean water is particularly important for children, but it can be challenging to find in such dry environments with little rain.

So UNICEF found a solution. In August 2024, a solar-powered water system was completed in Kamana village, bringing safe drinking water straight to the community from its source more than 16 miles away. Now Asiya - and her community of 7,000 people - have drinking water right at their doorsteps. These forms of clean energy are life changing!

In 2021, conflict erupted in Tigray, Ethiopia forcing many families, like 9 year-old Adiam’s, to flee in search of safety.

The family lived off of farming that provided a comfortable living and enabled them to send their children to school but then the conflict changed everything.

The children missed school for a year and the family survived off of begging. Adiam and her siblings have since been able to return to school thanks to UNICEF’s accelerated learning program. With this opportunity, Adiam has grown, made friends and dreams of becoming a doctor so she can help her friends.

12-year old Judy is able to continue her education in a temporary learning space in Khan Younis. This space allows her to regain a sense of routine and stability.

UNICEF and partners are working under extraordinary conditions to reach 650,000 school-aged children in the Gaza strip to ensure they receive the support they need to survive, learn and heal.

Your support is needed more than ever.

Cecilia, 16, and Hannah, 14, have their hearts set on becoming surgeons. Sandra, 16, is planning on a career as a lawyer, to promote justice. Wallinane, 14, wants to be "a judge who is not corrupt."

These are some of the girls from Chipoka Secondary School in the Salima district in central Malawi who will help shape Malawi's future. And with support from the K.I.N.D. (Kids In Need of Desks) Fund, launched back in 2010 by MS NOW's Lawrence O'Donnell and UNICEF USA, their dreams have a much better chance of coming true. To date, K.I.N.D. scholarships have helped nearly 38,000 girls in Malawi graduate from high school.

Thanks to flexible funding, UNICEF is transforming the lives of children around the world.

In Chad, flexible funds enabled UNICEF to act quickly to respond to the threat of widespread malnutrition.

As a result of UNICEF’s systemic response, more than 334,000 children suffering from severe acute malnutrition received treatment, with an exceptional cure rate of 94 percent. Flexible funds continue to support UNICEF’s work with communities to develop and incorporate day-to-day preventative nutrition support — critical to sustaining the health of Chad’s next generation.

Across Guatemala, UNICEF works with local partners to teach parents how simple acts of affection, like talking, hugging and playing, can transform a child’s future.

Every smile, every touch, every warm word helps shape a child's brain for life. This blend of affection, play and emotional connection lays the foundation for optimal Early Childhood Education.

Thanks to UNICEF, a total of 276 new Comprehensive Child Development Community Centers (CECODIIs) were established in the departments of Alta Verapaz and Chiquimula in 2024 alone, benefitting nearly 20,000 families in more than 180 communities.

“My first day at school was amazing.” says 8-year-old Youssef from Syria. Youssef began school last year and is now able to read and participate alongside his classmates with the help of his Braille machine.

Last year, UNICEF supported over 9,000 students like Youssef across Syria through inclusive education programs. The lack of continuous access to education for children in Syria remains a crisis within the crisis. At least 2.4 million children are out of school, and over one million children, especially those with disabilities, are at risk of dropping out, due to insecurity and lack of resources.
