What a day at the Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS flea market! 🎭

Despite the rain moving this year’s festivities indoors to the Hammerstein Ballroom, the crowds absolutely showed up. The room was packed with theatre lovers digging through thousands of donated Playbills, posters, T-shirts, memorabilia and pieces of Broadway history — all in support of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

One of our favorite parts of the day was seeing just how wonderfully diverse the theatre-going community really is.

We met little kids experiencing their very first Broadway Flea with their parents, Gen Z fans searching for copies of Legally Blonde, and longtime theatregoers like Robert Pearlman, who moved to New York 50 years ago and told us he has seen more than 3,000 shows — with a program from each one of them!

Different generations. Different shows. Different relationships to the theatre. All sharing the same room and the same excitement.

And none of it would have been possible without our incredible team of volunteers. For weeks leading up to the Flea, they collected, sorted and organized thousands of donated items. On the day itself, they were there from 8 AM to 6 PM - plus setup, cleanup and everything in between, helping turn an enormous collection of theatre history into support for an important cause.

We’re so grateful to everyone who donated, volunteered, stopped by, bought something, shared a story or simply came to celebrate the theatre community with us.

A lot of fun was had. A lot of theatre treasures found new homes. And, most importantly, funds were raised to support the vital work of Broadway Cares. ❤️

So many playbills to choose from!

Meet Robert Pearlman - a New Yorker for 50 years; he’s watched a total of 3000 shows since his time in the city, he’s an avid playbill collected and went home with 10 playbills just from our stall!

Laura Penn, Executive Director at SDC spotted in the midst of it all!

Sorting playbills alphabetically by title prior to the event!

Grief. But Greif.
