NYU 🫶 Washington Square Park ⛲️ so much that we’ve doubled our financial support for NYC’s best green space by pledging $6 million over four years to its nonprofit steward, the Washington Square Park Conservancy. 💜

“It is with great pleasure that we announce the substantial increase of our annual gift to the Conservancy that oversees Washington Square Park, which is so central to the life of NYU’s community,” said NYU President Linda G. Mills. “Washington Square Park is a public space where our employees and students gather and connect, and where our faculty members and their families play and build community. Everyone here in the Village and who comes here to visit deserves a vibrant, thriving, and safe Washington Square Park, and we are proud to be the Conservancy’s partners in this work.”

Join us Sunday, October 25 for our Halloween parade with The Q***r Big Apple Corps

Wear your favorite costume and join the parade down Greenwich Street to Washington Market Park! This long-standing Tribeca tradition brings the entire neighborhood together and is led by the incomparable The Q***r Big Apple Corps.

12:45pm | The parade will queue at Greenwich Street and Beach Street.

1pm | The parade procession will begin, culminating in our BOOtifully decorated park.

1:15-2pm | Enjoy the band’s performance on the park lawn!

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, photographers for the New York Post were sent scuttling around the city on the hunt to capture newsworthy moments—politics, sports, sometimes art, and, because it was the Post, mostly crime and celebrity. Martha Cooper (Martha Cooper) was one of those photographers. But some of Cooper’s most impactful work emerged from the shots she took in between those assignments, often of abandoned lots, trash and rubble, and scenes of children playing and passing the time outside. These photos recall classic Tenement-era images of city dwellers making the most of the streets around them. At the link in our bio, see more of Cooper’s work.
