🎬Unidentified Murder UFO離奇命案 (2025) | US Premiere
Thursday July 23, 6:00pm |

Made on almost no budget, the debut feature of writer-directors Kwok Ka-hei and Jack Lee is a darkly comic puzzle box. It starts with a group of children who once witnessed an alien abduction, an event that sensationalist media turned into a lasting legend. From there it gathers an influencer staging an elaborate prank on her boyfriend, a young actor caught in the middle of it, an extortion scheme that goes badly wrong, and one thoroughly fed-up motorcycle cop. Rather than march from point A to point B, the film keeps switching perspectives, each character handing over another piece of the puzzle. At the Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards it won Best Screenplay and was named one of the year’s Films of Merit.

Directors: Kwok Ka Hei, Jack Lee Chun Kit
Cast: Ling Man Lung, Renci Yeung, Ronald Lam, Peter Chan (Chan Charm Man Peter), Kenny Wong

Intro and Q&A with director Tracy Choi

At thirty-four, Lok can feel the life she has postponed pressing in. Macau-born and long adrift in the Hong Kong film world, she has one feature behind her, a second that refuses to come together, and a live-in girlfriend who wants a future that looks settled. But the closer that future gets, the more Lok returns to the women and cities that shaped her: Taiwan at twenty-two, where her student years bring a restless romance and the sense that life could still open in any direction; Macau at seventeen, where a crush on a free-spirited older woman first teaches her what desire means. Drawing from her own life, Tracy Choi turns those three ages and three cities into a confoundingly intimate q***r drama about love, artistic doubt, and the hard bargain between growing up and staying true to oneself.

Director: Tracy Choi
Cast: Fish Liew, Jennifer Yu, Elizabeth Tang, Ning Han, Natalie Hsu

🎬Cyclone 超風 (2026) | North American Premiere
Wednesday July 22, 8:45pm |Film at Lincoln,
Intro and Q&A with director Philip Yung and screenwriter Annabelle Kayee Li

Philip Yung followed the crime lyricism of Port of Call (NYAFF 2015) with the heartbreaking Papa, garnering eleven Hong Kong Film Award nominations. Now comes his boldest work yet, chosen to close the 50th Hong Kong International Film Festival. Taking its title from Mei Chaofeng, the fierce wanderer of wuxia legend, Cyclone follows a young trans woman who leaves mainland China for Hong Kong, and falls in love while working to save for gender-affirming surgery and reckoning with a traumatic past. In the city’s back alleys and transient rooms, she falls in with Ah Bian, whose affection comes tangled with damage and drug use, and Xiaomei, who lets her glimpse another way of being a woman. Yung turns exile, desire, and self-remaking into a bruised Hong Kong nocturne.

Cast: Yuqiao Liu, Edwynn Li, Jenny Suen

One of the great hidden pleasures in the Johnnie To and Wai Ka-fai catalogue, Fat Choi Spirit turns mahjong into a blend of combat sport, romantic trial, and pure Lunar New Year delirium. Andy Lau is all charm as a legendary player whose clean table manners conceal a life in shambles: a mountain of debts and family trouble, and a love affair with a gloriously volatile Gigi Leung, whose affection brings him miraculous luck… until the tiles begin exposing what love cannot quite forgive. But then Lau Ching-wan, Louis Koo, and Cherrie Ying crowd the table with schemes and grudges, bad hands and bad behavior. As the tiles crack down, To and Wai stage their games like shootouts at a triad negotiation.

Intro and Q&A with Screen International Rising Star Asia Award Recipient Angela Yuen .yuen, and director Keane TK Wong

A celebrated stage director stakes everything on what is meant to be his swan song, even as his marriage comes apart. He casts a complete unknown as his female lead, only for his ex, now a movie-star diva, to sweep in, seize the role, and bump the newcomer down to understudy. As opening night bears down, he settles on a drastic plan in the name of true art. Keane T.K. Wong makes his feature directorial debut, mentored by Derek Yee, with a gleefully irreverent satire of show-business vanity and dysfunctional love, dragging the Hollywood screwball comedy into present-day Hong Kong. Stephen Fung leads a powerhouse ensemble with Myolie Wu, Chrissie Chau, and Angela Yuen.

Hong Kong’s first all-female esports team, Dollhouse, has broken up, and its five members are pretending they are totally, absolutely over it. They are not. Reborn as the Gamer Girls, Summer (all-around leading girl Angela Yuen), Raven, Kaki, Lilith, and Miko turn a neighborhood cha chaan teng, a Hong Kong-style diner, into an improvised tournament hub. Soon the little tournament becomes bigger than they had planned. But weeks before citywide team selections, a sweeping account suspension threatens to knock out the entire local scene. Veronica Bassetto and Sophie Yang’s debut makes girl power mash the controller buttons. Avatars flash, flight and pulse as the team chemistry hums right under the surface. These girls are not logging out.

Intro and Q&A with Best From The East Award Recipient Daniel Wu
Tuesday July 21, 3:00pm |Film at Lincoln,

The Cold War franchise rewinds to street-level 1994, three years before the handover, when Hong Kong is rich, jumpy, and still wired into the machinery of colonial power. A tycoon’s kidnapping pulls police brass, British intelligence, titans of industry, and the underworld into a four-way conflict over power and survival. Exploring the origins of the _Cold War’_s institutional combat, Longman Leung lets something older and rougher break through: triad succession drama, ransom panic, restaurant shootouts, and hard driving men trying to secure their place by force in a city on the cusp of historic change. Daniel Wu, Terrance Lau, and Louise Wong lead the 1994 story, with Wu Kang-ren, Tse Kwan-ho, Fish Liew, Aidan Gillen (Game Of Thrones), and Hugh Bonneville in the fray.

In 2012, Club EJ is the last grand hostess club standing in East Tsim Sha Tsui, a fading palace where powerful men on both sides of the law still come to spend and be entertained. Veteran manager Foon, played by Dayo Wong, knows all the rituals of the room. Enter his ex-wife, Madame V (Sammi Cheng), who arrives as CEO and gives the club thirty days to prove its worth. But when a slick businessman makes his own play for Club EJ, the former couple and their staff must outwit him. After A Guilty Conscience, Jack Ng reunites much of his cast for a seedier return to Hong Kong crowd cinema. This international premiere of the Director’s Cut is rougher, more adult, and nearly thirty minutes longer, pushing_ Night King _deeper into the underworld only glimpsed in theaters.

🎬Dog Day Evening 一個部門的誕生 (2026) | North American Premiere
Sunday July 19, 4:00pm |

A man is mad as hell and not going to take it anymore. Feeling alone with his grievance and facing the city’s worst customer service, he makes a sudden drastic choice, taking staff and customers hostage, and making one demand: he wants to cancel his cable subscription. Because apparently, this requires escalation. Mak Tin-shu, Hong Kong Film Awards-winning screenwriter of Trivisa and Detective vs. Sleuths, makes his directing debut with a farce about the pettiest of modern frustrations: the monthly plan that will not die. Byzantine contracts, scripted apologies, and bureaucratic runaround feed the mounting exasperation, until one man’s impossible cancellation request has swallowed the entire workplace. With Michael Ning, Fish Liew, Rachel Leung, Mak Pui-tung, Tse Wing-yan, and Yukki Tai caught in the madness.

Director: Mak Tin Shu
