✨ Flashback Friday ✨
In honor of National Book Lovers Day on August 9, we’re looking back to 1999, when the Junior League of Annapolis brought stories to life through the 2000 Pages Reading Marathon across Anne Arundel County, Maryland.
League members and community volunteers gathered at locations including the Clay Street Clinic, the Department of Social Services’ Family Support Center, the Kunta Kinte Festival, and the Eastport Library, reading aloud and encouraging children and families to experience the joy of books. Celebrity readers from across the county joined the effort, helping amplify the importance of literacy and learning.
Across the decades, Junior Leagues worldwide have championed literacy and childhood education, leading reading initiatives, building libraries, and creating access to books for children and families in their communities.
As we celebrate 125 years of the Junior League Movement, this moment highlights how a shared love of reading can spark connection, confidence, and lifelong learning.
