Turtle Bay Tree Fund

Turtle Bay Tree Fund The Fund’s mission is to enhance the quality of life in the Turtle Bay neighborhood

Founded in 1965, by a group of concerned neighbors and activists that included Peter Detmold (Detmold Park) and James Amster (Amster Yards), the Turtle Bay Tree Fund is an all-volunteer organization that provides seasonal plantings in tree beds, and works to maintain the trees, flower beds, and enclosures. We are one of the largest of this type of neighborhood organizations, with responsibility fo

r nearly 250 tree beds in the area from 48th to 51st streets, from Third Avenue to the East River. The Tree Fund is a tax-exempt association that raises funds from neighborhood residents and others who care about street trees. Virtually all money raised is paid out for professional landscaping services.

A Christmas present from New York City - the East Midtown Greenway is open! The beautiful extension that stretches from 53rd Street to connect at 60th Street is wide, with separate bike, running and walking lanes and plenty of trees and plants. A new vantage point from which to admire the UN, and the East River are added bonuses.

This past week we did our first planting of the year- what a difference coleus and begonia make. For those of you in the neighborhood, please help us in maintaining the tree pits. A little water and care go a long way 💧 🌺 especially as we get into the hotter months of summer.
