Our Flower Ministry team had a Night at the Museum adventure! Late yesterday evening, we delivered 80 beautiful, large floral arrangements from the Catholic Charities of New York gala to ArchCare’s Terence Cardinal Cooke Health Care Center and Mary Manning Walsh Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center for the enjoyment of their residents, patients, families, and staff.

James Palazza, YOF; Thomas Spannring, KM; Sal Tisi; and NYC Area Chair Steve Bujno, KM navigated the maze of corridors under the Museum to collect the flowers from the Hall of Ocean Life. Fortunately, our team wasn’t chased by a T-Rex, and the polar bears and other museum displays courteously waited until after our departure to come to life.

Special thanks to American Association President Ken Craig for coordinating with Catholic Charities CEO Antonio Fernandez, YOF to make this very generous donation of the floral arrangements possible.

It is our privilege to partner with MMW, TCC, and other ArchCare facilities. Mary Manning Walsh provides compassionate skilled nursing and long-term care, short-term rehabilitation, and state of the art sub-acute care. TCC provides skilled nursing and long-term care, short-term rehabilitation, a leading Huntington’s disease care program, and Mother Cabrini Specialty Hospital for Children.

This month, the NYC Area held its second annual “Lourdes in a Day”, bringing the gift of our Lady to the homebound residents at Mary Manning Walsh Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. Nearly 100 residents, family members, guests, Dames, Knights, Affiliates, and volunteers came together for a truly grace-filled day. The celebration continued with a festive reception hosted by MMW and ArchCare on the beautiful 7th floor terrace, capped off with a rousing piano singalong using the songbook from the beloved Jeanne d’Arc singalongs in Lourdes itself.

Each May, thousands of Knights, Dames, and volunteers from across the world travel to the Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes in the French Pyrenees, the site where the Virgin Mary appeared to St. Bernadette Soubirous in 1858. Since that apparition’s centenary, the Order of Malta has made an annual international pilgrimage to Lourdes, taking malades—sick and disabled pilgrims—to the Grotto of Massabielle. At this spring, which flows at the base of the Grotto, Our Lady of Lourdes invites us to come and “drink and wash ourselves.” The Catholic Church has officially recognized 72 medical miracles at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes in France.
