Time for another Spotlight 🫶🌈✨

For Zoé, Camp Able is a chosen family built on summers of shared music, adventures, and the purest form of love 💛

Zoé has been part of Camp Able for five years and says that ever since trying camp after graduating high school, it became a non negotiable part of her summer. Outside of camp, she teaches preschool on Marco Island, runs a pop up coffee business with her best friend Nathan, and loves creating things that help people feel seen.

One moment that especially stayed with Zoé was her first Camp Able talent show.

Her camper Beau had talked about it from the very first day of camp. He had planned the concept, picked the outfit, chosen the song, and waited all year for that moment.

When she finally watched him perform, she said everything clicked.

💬 “Once I saw him up there, completely in his element, it made perfect sense why he had made such emphasis on that moment.”

She shared that seeing the confidence, excitement, and joy in that room helped her understand why campers and staff continue coming back year after year.

Camp also changed the way Zoé connects with people.

She shared:
💬 “It expanded the forms of communication I pay attention to.”

Through her years at camp, she learned to notice facial expressions, eye contact, body language, repetition, and all the ways people communicate without words.

And when reflecting on inclusion, Zoé said something that really stuck with us:

💬 “Inclusion means opening your heart to everyone and anyone who you encounter. It’s making space even when no one asks you to.”

Zoé, thank you for bringing your creativity, your energy, and your heart to Camp Able year after year. Thank you for reminding us that so much can be said without words and that everyone deserves a spotlight 💛

For Natiri, Camp Able started as one summer experience and became a community she keeps coming back to year after year 💛

Natiri is currently working as an Athletic Trainer in St. Petersburg, FL and this summer marks her fifth year with Camp Able. She first started serving at Camp Able Marco Island before joining Camp Able Memphis, and this is now her second year participating in what counselors lovingly call the “World Tour,” traveling to multiple Camp Able locations and experiencing everything Camp Able has to offer.

When reflecting on how Camp Able has helped her grow, Natiri shared:
💬 “Camp has made me more empathetic and helped me grow emotionally.”

She also shared that there has always been a joke at Marco that she is not a big hug person, but over the years camp has slowly changed that.

After experiencing multiple Camp Able communities, one thing became clear:
💬 “Camp Able brings some of the best people in the world together.”

When thinking about inclusion, Natiri shared:
💬 “I find camp is the most genuine form of inclusion. Everyone genuinely wants to accommodate everyone and be friends with everyone.”

And when asked how she would describe Camp Able to someone who has never heard of it, she said:
💬 “A safe space to be yourself and make genuine friendships.”

One moment that especially stayed with Natiri was the first time a camper called her after camp ended. She realized then that Camp Able was more than one week. It was a real friendship that continued long after camp was over.

Natiri, thank you for choosing to spend your summers building connection and creating spaces where everyone feels welcomed and celebrated. We are so excited to have you back this summer 🫶🌈

For Shea, Camp Able isn’t just a week on the calendar, it’s something he carries with him all year long 💙

Shea described camp as “a cool bubble of life,” where people come together with one shared goal: having fun and sharing love. The way he talks about camp makes it clear that for him, the best part has always been the people.

One moment that especially stayed with Shea was coming back for a second year and realizing how much he missed the campers. He shared that seeing everyone again felt like a huge family reunion 💛 That feeling of returning to people who know you, love you, and pick right back up where you left off is part of what makes Camp Able so special.

When reflecting on how Camp Able changed him, Shea shared:
💬 “Every year I try to bring a fraction of the joy and positivity from camp into the world.”

And when thinking about inclusion, he said:
💬 “Seeking to connect and understand anybody and everybody.”

Shea also shared something that really stuck with us:
💬 “The reason I do multiple camps is to continue being part of more and more people’s story… I love the feeling of being part of that impact.”

That’s the heart of Camp Able- showing up for people, creating connection, and carrying camp with you long after the week ends 🫶

Shea, thank you for choosing to spend your summers with our friends and for bringing so much joy and perspective to Camp Able. We are so lucky to have you ✨

Some people find Camp Able for volunteer hours and never expect it to change their life, and Ammie is one of those people 💙

This summer, we are so excited to welcome to Camp Able NOLA. This will be her NINTH year doing Camp Able after first getting involved at just 13 years old. What started as volunteer hours quickly became something she knew she would come back to year after year.

Ammie recently graduated from Florida State University and will be returning this fall to pursue her master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology. Camp Able has been part of her journey for nearly a decade, and you can see that in the way she talks about inclusion and community 🫶

When reflecting on how Camp Able changed her perspective, Ammie shared:
💬 “Every year at camp I am reminded just how much love this world has to give… seeing every person fall more in love with this organization each day is what keeps me excited to come back every year.”

When asked what inclusion means after experiencing Camp Able, she shared:
💬 “Inclusion means creating an environment where everyone feels they can participate as 100% themselves.”

And when describing Camp Able, she said:
💬 “It’s like every holiday combined into one!!”

One story that especially stayed with us was from Ammie’s very first year at camp. At only 13 years old, she came home after her first day and told her mom she wanted to become a special education teacher. She shared that it was the first moment she realized how much Camp Able would impact her life 💛

Ammie, thank you for growing up with Camp Able and continuing to choose this community year after year. We are so lucky to have you and can’t wait to make more memories together this summer ✨

Some people live Camp Able, and Jefferson is one of those people 💙

This summer, we are so lucky to welcome Jefferson to Camp Able NOLA. Along with several other incredible volunteers, Jefferson was sponsored by to travel and support Camp Able locations across the country, and we’re so grateful one of those stops is New Orleans!

Jefferson lives in Orlando, Florida where he serves as a reservist for the USMC, plays semi-pro volleyball in Oviedo, works as an RBT, and is also a student. No matter what he’s doing, one thing that stands out is how deeply he cares for people and the way he chooses to meet others where they are 🫶

When reflecting on Camp Able, Jefferson shared:
💬 “Camp Able was the first place I experienced genuine interaction with people with diverse abilities… It taught me just how powerful authentic love is in someone’s life.”

He also shared that inclusion isn’t just everyone doing the same thing:
💬 “It’s meeting others in their reality and offering a hand to share struggles or laughter.”

One story that especially stayed with us was about a camper Jefferson once worked with. He shared that although the camper was often misunderstood and others offered him the option to switch, he made the choice to stay and love him deeply. By the end of the week, that camper looked at him and said “I love you for life.”

That moment changed the way Jefferson moves through life and the way he shows up for others 💛

When asked how he describes Camp Able, he said:
💬 “It’s a place where the best of humanity takes place.”

Jefferson, we are so grateful to get to meet you, learn from you, and have you join our Camp Able NOLA community this summer. We can’t wait to make memories together ✨

Time for another Spotlight 🫶🌈✨

Since joining Camp Able in 2023, Morgan Lyons has become such a special part of our community, and this summer marks her THIRD year with us 💙 Year after year, she continues to show up for our friends and help create the moments that make Camp Able so meaningful.

When asked to describe Camp Able, Morgan shared:
💬 “Camp Able is a place full of joy and belonging. It allows campers and counselors to create meaningful, unconditional friendships. The memories, laughter, and differences we all share make Camp Able completely unique and impactful.”

One memory that especially stayed with Morgan was Open Mic night 🎤 Watching campers get up and confidently share the things they love most reminded her how special Camp Able truly is. She shared that one of her favorite parts of camp is getting to learn something new about each camper and celebrating what makes each person unique 💛

Morgan also reflected on how Camp Able changed her perspective:
💬 “Camp Able has taught me that happiness truly comes from genuine connections and making positive differences. Joy doesn’t have to come from perfect moments — sometimes it’s found in the middle of chaos, through laughter, connection, and simply being present.”

And when thinking about inclusion, Morgan shared:
💬 “At Camp Able, everyone is accepted exactly as they are. We are all valued and celebrate our differences.”

That’s the heart of Camp Able- belonging, friendship, and finding joy in being exactly who you are 🫶

Morgan, thank you for choosing Camp Able summer after summer and for everything you pour into our community. We’re so excited to make more memories together this year ✨

Some people come to Camp Able once and never forget it- and for Adam Fields, this summer will already be year THREE 💙 Even more special, Adam lives in Covington and continues making the trip down to spend his summers with our friends at Camp Able. Fresh off his week at Krewe de Camp, we are so excited to have him back with us again. Talk about dedication 🫶

Outside of Camp Able, Adam is studying in a dual certification program for Elementary Education and Special Education. He is also involved with the program and serves as a mentor through LSU’s ICS Program. Some people live out the values of Camp Able year-round, and Adam is one of those people whose heart pours into everything he does.

One moment that especially stayed with Adam was when his friend Ben looked at him halfway through camp and said he was having the best day of his life. Hearing that reminded Adam how meaningful Camp Able truly is and showed him how something as simple as friendship and inclusion can have such a lasting impact 💛

When asked how he would describe Camp Able to someone who’s never heard of it, Adam shared:
💬 “Camp Able is an inclusive summer camp that creates life-changing friendships, joy, and a sense of belonging for people of all abilities.”

He also shared:
💬 “Camp Able helped me see the world differently by showing me the importance of inclusion, friendship, and making everyone feel valued.”

And when reflecting on what inclusion means after experiencing Camp Able, he said:
💬 “Inclusion means making sure every person feels valued, accepted, and genuinely included, regardless of their differences.”

That’s the heart of Camp Able- creating friendships that last, building community, and making sure everyone feels like they belong 🫶

Adam, thank you for continuing to choose Camp Able year after year and for making the trip from Covington to be with us again. We can’t wait to make more memories together this summer ✨
