The Louisiana Museum Foundation was pleased to host its Annual Meeting of the Membership on Monday, June 8, generously hosted by Tableau.

The evening provided an opportunity to reflect on the Foundation's accomplishments over the past year, celebrate the impact of our members and supporters, and welcome new members to the Board of Directors as we continue to advance the mission of the Louisiana State Museum and its properties across the state.

We extend our sincere thanks to Tableau for their hospitality and to all who joined us. We look forward to an exciting year ahead—including a special announcement coming soon about this fall's Founders Ball.

Thank you for joining us at the Spanish Gálvez Gala at the Cabildo. Your presence helped make the evening a tremendous success as we celebrated the opening of Gálvez and Louisiana in the American Revolution and Louisiana’s pivotal role in the Revolutionary era.

We are grateful to Louisiana State Museum Director Becky Mackie, Curator Steven Kling, and Gálvez re-enactor Dennis Carlos for their remarks, as well as to the SAR Color Guard, led by Paul Bergeron, for opening the program.

We also thank Julio Guichard, representing Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser, for presenting a special proclamation honoring Antonio Garcia Roger.

The evening came alive with performances by the A.C. San Borondon Dancers, Chula featuring Vivi del Rio, and a flamenco performance by Leticia “La Canela” Jimenez, Pepele Méndez, John Lawrence, and Pedrito Segundo.

The exhibition Gálvez and Louisiana in the American Revolution is now on view at the Cabildo. We invite you to return to experience the full story—and to support the exhibition and future programming at the Louisiana State Museum.

Calas are a sweet rice fritter with historic roots, from their website: Calas emerged from the hands of enslaved Africans, originating from rice-growing regions of Africa and brought to New Orleans via the trans-Atlantic slave trade. The name “Calas” itself is derived from the Nigerian Nupe word “kara,” meaning “fried cake.”
By making a return to Jackson Square, where calas were known to be sold on Sundays, Calas at the Cabildo offers a full circle moment and we are so pleased to support their mission.
