WVUE's NOLA Now spotlighted three of the organizations carrying BCM's K20: Fortified Not Forgotten campaign forward — Carol Markowitz of Strongward (formerly SBP), Rashida Ferdinand of Sankofa Nola, and James Karst of Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana.

Each is one of ten K20 grant recipients supporting recovery in the 9th Ward and St. Bernard Parish, twenty years after Hurricane Katrina.

On WWL's Great Day Louisiana, Christy Ross, BCM's SVP & COO, and Lisa Dabney, Executive Director of the Ellis Marsalis Center For Music, joined Malik Mingo to talk about BCM's K20: Fortified Not Forgotten campaign. The Center is one of ten organizations selected as a K20 grant recipient serving the 9th Ward and St. Bernard Parish, marking 20 years since Hurricane Katrina.

Dabney called the Center an oasis in the middle of the 9th Ward, serving musicians and the wider Musicians Village community.

St. Mary's Academy, New Orleans has been educating and empowering young women in New Orleans since 1867. Founded by the Sisters of the Holy Family when Black children were denied access to education, the school became an act of faith and resistance that has endured for nearly 160 years. When Hurricane Katrina flooded the campus, the Sisters rebuilt. And they've continued building ever since.

Today, St. Mary's maintains a 100% graduation and college acceptance rate, a testament to leadership with conviction and purpose.

At G. W. Carver High School, faculty and staff are strengthening student pathways through academic programming, enriching extracurricular activities, hands-on learning experiences, and community partnerships, all designed to prepare scholars for college, a meaningful career, or both.

More than two decades after Katrina, Carver educators are investing in the next generation the way their own community once invested in them. Their work is a testament to the legacies being built that scholars will carry long after graduation.

In 2010, a group of educators decided to take their students outside and run. More than a decade later, Youth Run NOLA has a presence in over 40 schools across New Orleans and has engaged nearly 2,000 young people ages 8 to 20 in building healthier lifestyles and stronger communities.

This year, the 13th annual 504K brought together over 600 community members, including more than 300 youth from traditionally underserved communities, for a race day full of wellness activities, prizes, and a running route along the Mississippi River.
