My name is Rollin Black and for the last 8 years I’ve worked with CSED to promote environmental and coastal protection in the Lower 9th Ward and surrounding communities through direct action like tree planting and recycling.  I have helped start organizations like “The Canal Will Kill” which through a comprehensive approach has fought against the Army Corps industrial canal expansion projects which can have massive environmental and community impacts, I’ve helped in creating pathways for the next generation through our environmental internship program which is focused on coastal stewardship for teens.
I currently hold a board position with Common Ground Relief, which adds another dimension to our community work. Over the last few decades CGR has played a crucial role in Bayou restoration and feeding the lower 9th ward community through its food pantry, particularly in the years following Katrina.
My driving focus is to help future generations of the lower ninth ward and all of its unique environmental challenges in this community through both grassroots organizing and larger policy interventions.
