Make Peace With Animals We are the organization that wrote the book on Greyhound adoption! We placed our first Greyhound in 1 None of our staff is paid and most have full-time jobs.

We are the organization that wrote the book on Greyhound adoption! Since Adopting the Racing Greyhound was first published (Howell Book House, New York, 1992) it has sold over 100,000 copies worldwide and in the summer of 2003 was released in an expanded Third Edition. To quote Joan Belle Isle of The Greyhound Project “The book that has had the single biggest impact on Greyhound adoption, Cynthia Branigan’s Adopting the Racing Greyhound has become required reading for many new Greyhound adopters around the world.”
We placed our first Greyhound in 1988 and, since then, have found homes for over 4,000 others. All of this has been accomplished by an extraordinarily dedicated group of volunteers. Nonetheless, the defining characteristic of our group is the individual care each adopter receives, both before and after the adoption. We take great pains to match the right person with the right dog. If there needs to be some fine-tuning after the fact, we are there for you. If unforeseen circumstances require you to return a dog, we gladly accept him or her back; in fact, we insist on it!

ADOPTION PENDING! đź’™MEET HULK!

You’d think a 79-pound boy with the tough-guy nickname of “Hulk” would be the rough and tumble sort. Not so! Four-year-old Hulk is a sensitive soul who is seeking an equally sensitive and sympathetic adopter.
Hulk is keenly aware of his surroundings and is not fond of loud noises or tight spaces.
If there’s too much going on, he loves to retreat to his safe place, a crate with an open door, where he can watch the world go by while feeling secure.
Hulk gravitates to men, perhaps remembering a kindly trainer at the track. He’s fine with women, of course, but he’s more of a daddy’s boy.
Hulk is being fostered with cats and has shown absolutely no interest in them. He gets along with other dogs, too.
He is an enthusiastic eater and enjoys moseying around a fenced yard while appreciating nature.
And did we mention he has supermodel good looks? He does!

HOMECOMING CANCELLED

Due to the predicted very severe weather for Saturday, September 26th, we are canceling our 38th Annual Homecoming. Park rentals must be arranged months in advance, so we cannot simply pick a random future date this year.
We are extremely disappointed (to put it mildly) and hope we haven't inconvenienced you and your Greyhounds!

SUPRISE!
from Cynthia Branigan

We moved Heaven and Earth to squeeze in two more available Greyhounds before our upcoming 38th Homecoming on Saturday, September 26th.
Here's another brother and sister duo, shiny black Castlebar and brightly striped Miranda. Neither have had their spay /neuter surgery yet so they won't be able to be adopted until that is done.
We are also working on getting a cat test done before the Homecoming.
Meanwhile, our thanks to Tim and Heidi for making the long trip two weeks in a row. And thanks to Deborah and Larry Reed for making the first leg of the trip twice.
Welcome to the Make Peace pack, Castlebar and Miranda!
More details coming soon.
As a reminder: Make Peace With Animals is based in New Hope, PA. Our adoption area includes all of New Jersey and the Pennsylvania counties of Bucks, Northampton, Lehigh, Berks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia.
For information on how to apply to adopt, go to our website at www.mpwa.org.

FOR THE SILENT AUCTION
from Cynthia Branigan

Over the years, Marc Dralus and his wife Susan, fostered countless Greyhounds for us on Long Island. Although Marc is no longer with us, his generosity lives on!
Susan sent us a box of goodies for the Silent Auction including this vintage 8" by 4" vegetable label.

FOR THE SILENT AUCTION
from Cynthia Branigan

Here are two of the items generously donated to Make Peace by our friends at Bountiful Acres Garden Center and Landscaping in Holicong, PA (www.bountifulacres.com).
These small angel pups, available separately, would make a perfect contemplative piece in your memorial garden, or can celebrate your current dogs --who we know are angels!
Bountiful Acres will also be donating a giant bird-themed basket including a bird house, seed, suet, and other goodies for our feathered friends.

MEET HULK

Here's a lovely fellow desperately in need of a name change.
First, his nickname at the track was Hulk. Only problem is he's not really that big. This fawn beauty who just turned 4 is only 80 pounds. Big, but not exactly hulk-sized.
Then there's his racing name: Travel Nightmare. I mean really, what does that have to do with this sweet fellow?
Hulk is cat friendly and is being fostered with cats so we're really sure!
He's lovable and affectionate, too. He's on the sensitive side and is not fond of loud noises. But that 's a reflection of his refined nature.
He is also doing well with the male and female Greyhounds in his foster home, so he's got it all.
All, except for the right name. Once he's yours, you can determine the name that reflects his beautiful soul.

MEET STARDUST

This spicy little girl, only 18 months old and a mere 50 pounds, was determined not to be a contender at the track before she even began. The powers that be must have known that her real talent lies in being someone's loving, goofy, enthusiastic companion.
Jet black Stardust is, by turns, bright, smart, respectful of the two older females in her foster home, and always ready for a belly rub.
And get this: She's cat friendly! And excellent at riding in the car!
Stardust loves to explore and zipped up the carpeted stairs to the second floor of her foster home without even being taught how to do it.
She needs some work on her leash skills, especially when it comes to lunging when she sees a squirrel or rabbit in her path. But her foster mom is working on it and with just a few days of correction, she has already improved.
She flips toys in the air, gives little kisses, and is an all-around joy.
Stardust has had all of her vet work done and is ready to roll!

A TRIFECTA OF CAT FRIENDLY HOUNDS
from Cynthia Branigan

We were told in advance that yesterday's three incoming Greyhounds had been tested and were cat friendly. We can never be too safe, though, so we tested them again.
To our delight, all three passed with flying colors!
Hulk, the fawn male, now will be going to a home with a cat in residence. The adopter put in her application a while ago and has been waiting.
We are hoping that siblings Shrimp, a brindle male, and Star, a black female, will be adopted together. But to who? So far, that is an unknown!
More photos to follow, but here is the trio during their cat tests. Hulk had to be coaxed to even look at the cat. Shrimp and his sister Star had a good sniff and that was it. Hooray!
