Sometimes the biggest lessons come from the smallest nutrition label.

This year marks Sharon Grosso's fifth year teaching nutrition at the Neighborhood First Program, and every class brings new opportunities to help children better understand the foods they eat every day.

One of the most surprising moments comes when Sharon teaches students how to read food labels and shows them how much sugar is hiding in some of their favorite snacks and drinks. As the sugar packets are measured out, the room quickly fills with surprised faces and wide eyes.

The goal isn't to tell children they can never enjoy a favorite treat. It's to give them the knowledge and confidence to make informed choices, understand what's in the foods they eat, and build healthy habits that can last a lifetime.

At MAGIC, we believe nutrition education is an investment in a child's future. By helping children understand how food fuels their bodies and minds, we're empowering them to make choices that support their health, learning, and overall well-being.

We're grateful to our community partner, Neighborhood First, for the opportunity to continue this important program and inspire the next generation to make healthier choices, one lesson at a time.

As summer comes to a close and a new school year begins, it's a great time to remember that success isn't built in a single day. It's built through the small habits we practice every day.

Consistent bedtimes. Nutritious meals. Daily physical activity. Time spent reading. Encouraging conversations. These simple routines help children feel healthy, confident, and prepared to take on new challenges throughout the school year.

As National Wellness Month draws to a close, let's carry these healthy habits into the months ahead. The routines we build today can help children learn, grow, and thrive all year long.

Here's to a school year filled with healthy choices, new opportunities, and bright futures. โ™ฅ๏ธ

Healing happens when families feel supported, connected, and understood.
MAGIC is proud to have awarded a $5,400 grant to support Hope2U Initiative's first-ever Trust-Based Relational Interventionยฎ (TBRIยฎ) Family Camp, marking the beginning of a meaningful partnership dedicated to strengthening foster, adoptive, and kinship families.

Held at Main Stay Therapeutic Farm, Inc. in Richmond, Illinois, the weekend brought together seven families and 13 children for a trauma-informed, relationship-based experience focused on healing, connection, and hope. The grant helped provide professional volunteer stipends, parent trainers, and a camp scholarship, ensuring families could fully participate in this life-changing experience.

Throughout the weekend, families shared meaningful conversations, built lasting relationships, and experienced the power of being surrounded by others who understand their journey. Those moments of connection remind us that healing doesn't happen alone; it happens in community.

At MAGIC, we're honored to invest in programs that provide children and families with the resources, support, and encouragement they need to thrive. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Hope 2U Initiative and expanding opportunities that bring hope, healing, and brighter futures to foster, adoptive, and kinship families.

A healthy school year starts long before the first bell rings. ๐ŸŽ

The days leading up to a new school year are an ideal time to help children build routines that support their health, confidence, and success in the classroom.

Here are a few simple ways to get back-to-school ready:
๐Ÿ˜ด Gradually move bedtime earlier to help children get enough sleep.
๐Ÿฅฃ Start the day with a nutritious breakfast to fuel learning and concentration.
๐Ÿ’ง Pack a reusable water bottle to help your child stay hydrated throughout the day.
๐ŸŽ’ Organize backpacks and school supplies the night before to make mornings less stressful.
๐Ÿ“š Read together for 15โ€“20 minutes each day to help transition back into learning.
โค๏ธ Take time to talk about the new school year and encourage your child to share any excitement or worries they may have.

Small, consistent habits can help children feel prepared, ease first-day jitters, and support a successful year of learning and growth.

Here's to a happy, healthy, and confident start to the school year!

MAGIC was honored to sponsor the The Ten Thiusand Flowers Project mural at oTen Thousand Flowers Project partner, Fostering Fostering Hope Lower BucksLower Bucks County.

Created by local artist Tim Gibson, founder of the Ten Thousand Flowers Project, the mural is more than a work of art. It's a symbol of hope, healing, resilience, and the power of a community coming together to support children and families.

We were especially proud to have our Executive Director, Sharon Grosso, join volunteers and community members in bringing the mural to life. Like a giant paint-by-number, every flower painted represents the kindness, compassion, and connection that help create brighter futures for the families Fostering Hope serves.

Thank you to Fostering Hope โ€“ Lower Bucks, Tim Gibson, and everyone who picked up a paintbrush to help transform a simple wall into a beautiful expression of hope for all who walk through the door. โ™ฅ๏ธ

A child's ability to succeed in the classroom depends on more than just being able to see the board.

Many vision problems can go unnoticed because children often assume everyone sees the world the way they do. Even children with 20/20 eyesight can experience issues with eye tracking, focusing, or coordination that may affect reading, writing, attention, and overall learning.

As we recognize Children's Vision and Learning Month, it's a great reminder that healthy vision plays an important role in a child's confidence, academic success, and everyday life.

Here are a few signs that may indicate a child should receive a comprehensive eye exam:

๐Ÿ“– Losing their place while reading
๐Ÿ˜ฃ Frequent headaches or eye strain
๐Ÿ‘€ Squinting or covering one eye
โœ๏ธ Difficulty concentrating on schoolwork
๐Ÿ“š Avoiding reading or other close-up activities

Early detection and treatment can make a lasting difference, helping children develop the skills they need to learn, grow, and reach their full potential.

If you have concerns about your child's vision, talk with your eye care professional about scheduling a comprehensive eye exam before the school year begins.

Some of the best childhood memories are made away from a screen.

Before the school year gets busy, set aside a few hours to unplug and enjoy some quality time together as a family. You don't have to travel far or spend a lot of money. Sometimes the simplest moments become the most meaningful.

Here are a few ideas to inspire your next family adventure:
๐ŸŒณ Explore a local park or nature trail.
๐Ÿšฒ Go for a family bike ride.
๐Ÿงบ Pack a picnic and enjoy lunch outdoors.
๐Ÿ“š Read a favorite book together.
๐ŸŽจ Create colorful sidewalk chalk masterpieces.
๐ŸŽฃ Spend an afternoon fishing.

As we recognize Screen-Free Saturday, it's a wonderful reminder that putting down our devices creates more opportunities to connect, laugh, explore, and make lasting memories together.

The notifications will still be there later, but childhood won't.

For six years, one tradition has remained the same: helping students start the school year with confidence. ๐ŸŽ’

Through the MAGIC Scholarship Fund, MAGIC is honored to continue our partnership with Klinger Middle School, ensuring Centennial School District students have the tools they need to succeed from the very first day of school.

This year, 336 students received backpacks filled with essential school supplies, providing more than just notebooks and pencils. Each backpack represents confidence, opportunity, and the excitement of a new beginning.

For many families, back-to-school expenses can be overwhelming. By providing these backpacks and supplies, we're helping ease that burden so students can focus on what matters most: learning, growing, and reaching their full potential.

This milestone wouldn't be possible without the generosity of our donors, volunteers, community partners, and the dedicated staff at Klinger Middle School. Thank you for helping us invest in children, strengthen families, and build a brighter future, one backpack at a time.

Here's to six years of partnership and countless students empowered to start the school year ready to succeed.
