Summit Independent Living

Summit Independent Living Summit’s mission is to advance the independence and civil rights of people with disabilities.

Summit Independent Living is a non-residential, private, non-profit organization that offers a wide range of services designed to give people with disabilities the tools and resources that are needed to improve independence, self-confidence, knowledge, skills and access to community resources. Summit also works at the community level to build awareness and reduce attitudinal, architectural and com

munication barriers; combat discrimination; and promote the development of needed resources, programs, services, and policies. Summit is governed by a consumer-controlled Board of Directors whose lives have been personally impacted by a disability. It is funded in part by the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as amended in 1992 (Title VII- Independent Living Services), and the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (Disability Transitions Programs). Summit has offices located in Missoula, Hamilton, Kalispell, and Ronan.

We're paving the way to a better Summit!

We're in the last phase of fixing up our new headquarters office: tearing out the old curbs and parking lot and replacing it with a universally accessible entryway.

This will take a while, and it will be loud and smelly, as a bunch of life-sized Tonka toys tear up our property. So for the next month, just know that 1) we are open! and 2) you'll have to enter through the north side of the building.

Plus, Mountain Line paratransit services are still running to serve you.

Let us know if you have any questions, and thanks for your patience!

The journey starts tomorrow! Our free virtual Disability Advocacy Academy kicks off Thursday, Aug. 27 with our first session: Disability Rights 101.

Join two of our community's most experienced and revered (and also very funny) advocates — Nina G and Michael Beers — as they teach us about the foundations of disability rights, key laws, and how to advocate for equal access and inclusion.

Class is in at 6 p.m. tomorrow, and registration is required! So follow the link below or use the QR codes to sign up.

Your voice matters. Your experience matters. And your advocacy can create change.

You can learn how to advocate for yourself and your community with our free virtual Disability Advocacy Academy, starting this week!

This academy is designed to give you the knowledge, tools, and confidence to make your voice heard and turn your passion into action.

Over four months, we’ll come together for one hour each month to learn, connect, and build our advocacy skills. You don’t have to be an expert to be an advocate. You just have to be willing to speak up, learn, and take action.

Join us for all four sessions and become part of a growing community of people working together to create meaningful change.

Registration is required for each session — DM us or use the QR codes for the registration links.

Please let us know if you need an accommodation, and share with your networks!
