Summit Independent Living Summit’s mission is to advance the independence and civil rights of people with disabilities.

Summit Independent Living is a non-residential, private, non-profit organization that offers a wide range of services designed to give people with disabilities the tools and resources that are needed to improve independence, self-confidence, knowledge, skills and access to community resources. Summit also works at the community level to build awareness and reduce attitudinal, architectural and communication barriers; combat discrimination; and promote the development of needed resources, programs, services, and policies. Summit is governed by a consumer-controlled Board of Directors whose lives have been personally impacted by a disability. It is funded in part by the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as amended in 1992 (Title VII- Independent Living Services), and the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (Disability Transitions Programs). Summit has offices located in Missoula, Hamilton, Kalispell, and Ronan.

Join us and our friends at The Missoula Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind TOMORROW for their White Cane Day festivities!

National White Cane Day on October 15th is part of Blind Achievement Month in October!

• Clark Fork River Walk at 1PM

The fun starts with the National Federation of the Blind Coast-to-Coast Movement Challenge with a walk on Missoula's beautiful Milwaukee Trail. We'll begin at the footbridge near the University of Montana campus at 1 PM and travel to the Reserve Street underpass. Participants are welcome to walk all or part of this six-mile route.

• Celebration at ZACC!

We'll then gather for a celebration with music at the Zootown Arts Community Center at 7:30PM at 216 W. Main Street. Celebrate and support local blind artists and enjoy something called "sludge metal"!

Does Montana bureaucracy got you down? Sorting through paperwork from Medicaid, SNAP, and other programs can be overwhelming.

But we’re here to help, with coffee, snacks, and friendly faces.

Bring your paperwork to our Hamilton office on the first and third Thursday of every month from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., and we’ll go over it together — along with free coffee, tea, and treats.

Our classes will give you the skills you need to create healthy, affordable, and delicious meals.

Prepare a different dish every week, while learning things like menu planning, nutrition basics, kitchen safety, and more!
