Today we celebrate Juneteenth. The Route to Emancipation by follows three friends on a 350-mile cycling journey from the Texas Capitol to Galveston, where the Juneteenth proclamation was first read in 1865. About 27 minutes, streaming free on PBS, a reminder that movement is freedom.

The Idaho Hot Springs Mountain Bike Route has 40 hot springs along 517 miles of bikepacking terrain, and the hard part isn't the climbing, it's choosing where to stop. From a cliff-carved pool above the Payette River to a candlelit iron tub tended by a self-described Hot Springs Wizard, here are five of our favorite soaks on the route.

Our office is closed this Friday in celebration of Juneteenth. We're marking the day by spotlighting , an Austin-based organization using cycling to bring Black history to life through community rides, educational programming, and documentary film. Their mantra: movement is freedom.

Their documentary The Route to Emancipation follows founder Talib Abdullahi and two friends on a 350-mile ride from the Texas Capitol to Galveston, where the Juneteenth proclamation was first read. If you're in Austin on the 19th, they're hosting the 6th annual Juneteenth ride you can join! Check their page for details. Ariel Marlowe wrote about the journey on our blog.

When you map a route, riding it hits differently. Adventure Cycling's own Cartography Program Manager Amy Wally just got back from exploring part of the Vancouver Crossing Loop on ebikes with her dad, and the island delivered. From Victoria's cycling infrastructure and vibrant bike culture to lush old-growth forests, Butchart Gardens, Hatley Castle, and thousands of jellyfish spotted on the ferry crossing Saanich Inlet, it sounds like the route lived up to every bit of the work she put into it.

Today, our ambassador toes the line at the Tour Divide: 2,700 miles, fully self-supported, Banff to Antelope Wells. She holds the women's grand depart course record (15 days, 23 hours) and she's going back with her sights on the women's FKT.

Two weeks later, she will embark on Adventure Cycling's new Golden Gravel Trail, 3,805 miles from the Mississippi to the Oregon Coast. Some people take vacations, but Meaghan prefers long scenic routes!!

We are stoked for Adventure Cycling board member and bike travel champion, , who set off this week on the most ambitious ride of her career: a round-the-world attempt targeting sub-78.5 days to break the overall Guinness World Record for circumnavigating the globe. That's a minimum of 18,000 miles, at 240 miles per day, fully supported for the first time in her 11 years of racing. We're proud to have her on our board and even prouder to watch her chase this. We are cheering for you all over the world, Lael! Drop a note to Lael in the comments 🚲❤️

"Adventure is only as far away from you as you allow it to be."

Kyle, a dad of four in Indiana, started building his own routes through the backroads of Putnam, Owen, and Parke County through gravel roads, covered bridges (31 of them — Parke County is the Covered Bridge Capital of the World).

He now has routes ranging from simple day rides to a 268-mile, 11,000-foot gravel epic.
