PLANT-GROW-SHARE

PLANT-GROW-SHARE A Central Neighborhood project bridging support structures for access to food and farming education. Families are also paired with a mentor.

Plant-Grow-Share works to create opportunities for the Central Neighborhood in Minneapolis to grow food, community, and personal empowerment. PLANT - Families that participate in the project are provided with the materials needed to grow their own organic raised-bed gardens. The relationship that grows between mentors and mentees provides support throughout the gardening season. GROW - Through a series of workshops and gardening classes, participants gain confidence and gardening knowledge while getting to know fellow community members. Relationships, food, and skills are grown throughout the program. SHARE - As the summer progresses and the vegetables have ripened, families can contribute produce to the Little Free Farmers Market. This pop-up food cart will be biked around by volunteers every Saturday morning to share the harvest of this project with the community.

This Saturday, October 3rd is the very last market of the season!
10am-2pm: Fresh pressed juice, organic produce, crystals, vegan desserts, and free skate rentals for community right on 38th and Chicago!
Show love to local vendors who are out here in the midst of construction on the block, and share your gratitude for 16 Black-owned businesses on 38th and Chicago. Circulate dollars, keep value in proximity, let growers sell to neighbors, let neighbors become regulars, let regulars become community.

Hi neighbor! You are cordially invited to our upcoming events! On Saturday, October 3rd we start the day with 38th Street Market - a project we're proud to collaborate on alongside the 38th + Chi Business coalition. This market features local farmers who work with us an array of family friendly activities and vendors. After the market, we'll set community tables down Chicago Avenue at George Floyd Square and serve a free meal with locally grown food to several hundred neighbors out of ceramic bowls and hand-forged spoons that community members made themselves over the summer. There's something for everyone! Are you coming?

Are you interested in becoming a Seed Keeper? Explore the world of seed keeping: We will harvest, clean, and share knowledge about how to save seeds! A Seed Keeper is a person who collects, saves, and protects plant seeds from year to year. Saving seeds grown in our local environment (backyard, neighborhood, city, state, region) helps the plants adapt to the changing climate, preserve our cultural foods, and helps to secure our future food security.

Join Plant-Grow-Share at Hosmer Library for our annual Seed Keeping & Cleaning Workshop on Saturday September 19th from 1:30 to 3:30pm. No prior experience needed! English to Spanish interpretation provided. Questions? Contact [email protected]

That means despite the tear gas, the pollution and the environmental racism, our neighborhood isn't required to be protected from future environmental harm. 🤨

There's an opportunity to change that this Wednesday between 430-630pm in downtown mpls at the Public service building room 100AB. 🌱🍃
