Du Nord Foundation

Du Nord Foundation We envision a community of individuals empowered to follow their own North Star. Our inaugural initiative was the Du Nord Recovery Fund.

The purpose was to provide stability through disaster by supporting BIPOC-owned businesses in Minneapolis and St. Paul that were impacted by the civil unrest in the summer of 2020. We disbursed $496,751 in emergency rebuilding funds to 76 small businesses. This initiative closed in December 2020. The Du Nord Foundation is currently focused on two initiatives:

1. The Du Nord Foundation Community Market. This is a food-shelf program whose mission is Nourishing Our Neighbors. The vision is to support our neighbors on a dignified path to economic stability and provide access to aid that is barrier free by providing choice in high quality, culturally relevant food and household supplies. This is a community-connected model of horizontal aid that works in solidarity with the communities that sustain us.

2. Incubator Space for Small Businesses owned by the historically excluded. This initiative will support business ownership and economic prosperity by investing in rebuilding the community through intentional and innovative business development. The Du Nord Foundation is sunsetting and will be closed by year-end. We are proud of the work we accomplished in under five years with the help of our community including:

- the Recovery Fund, which provided emergency grants to over 70 small businesses

- the Barrier-free Food Shelf, which provided over 400 families with food every week

- two Krewe Du Nord Festivals, free festivals that were a big THANK YOU to our community.

It has been an honor and privilege to serve this community. Thank you to everyone who was involved from staff to volunteers to donors - we truly appreciate you!
