This spring, we planted 15 trees across three affordable housing communities: Albright Townhomes, Sumter Lane, and Knox Landing! 🌳

At Albright, residents joined us to plant in the rain. At Knox Landing, a senior community, residents helped decide where and what to plant during earlier engagement activities, then came together for planting day and a lively game of nature bingo. At Sumter Lane, over 40 residents joined in — including many kids planting a tree for the very first time.

It’s been exciting to see residents helping shape these projects and looking forward to watching the trees grow for years to come.

This project is funded by a Minnesota Department of Natural Resources ReLeaf grant.

Neighborhood of Rain Gardens season is well underway! 💧🌱

We’re excited to welcome Margaret and Jacob, our Landscape Design Assistants, who are joining Metro Blooms for the summer to support this year’s Neighborhood of Rain Gardens projects.

We’ve also kicked off the season with our amazing Conservation Corps Minnesota & Iowa crew! From navigating tricky utility lines and tree roots during training day to learning safe installation practices and sharpening trailer backup skills, the crew is already building the hands-on experience that helps bring these projects to life.

Through our Neighborhood of Rain Gardens program, Metro Blooms Design+Build partners with neighborhoods and cities to make it easier—and more affordable—for residents to install rain gardens that support cleaner lakes and rivers. 🏡💙

Today is National Mississippi River Day — a day to celebrate, protect, and connect with one of our nation’s most iconic waterways. 💙🌊

The Mississippi River has supported Indigenous communities for thousands of years and continues to sustain wildlife, ecosystems, and communities across the country. But the health of the river depends on all of us.

At Metro Blooms, our work to nurture thriving ecosystems, protect water quality through rain gardens, native plantings, and green infrastructure is deeply connected to the health of the Mississippi River and the waters that flow into it.

Every action we take locally — planting native species, reducing runoff, restoring habitat, and caring for clean water — helps protect the river we all share.

Want to get involved? 🌿 1 Mississippi’s River Days of Action runs June 1–15 with events and opportunities to take action for communities, wildlife, and clean water throughout the Mississippi River watershed: https://www.mississippiriver.org/river-days-of-action

The Metro Blooms Community Relations team is made up of young adults passionate about building relationships and connecting people to nature. 🌱

One of the most rewarding parts of their work is sharing planting experiences with community members of all ages — whether someone is planting their very first native garden at 5 or 65. These moments of joy, curiosity, and connection help create a sense of ownership and care for the trees and gardens growing in our neighborhoods. 🏘️🌻

As one past Blooming Boulevards participant shared:

“Metro Blooms designs these spaces with such creativity and care, transforming each boulevard into a living reminder of the beautiful dance between humans and the natural world. Their work makes our neighborhood healthier, more vibrant, and more connected to the land.” — Shannon

If you’d like to support this community-centered work, we invite you to join our Taproot Team of monthly donors: https://metroblooms.org/donate/

Your support helps us continue planting native gardens, trees, and lasting relationships throughout our communities. 💚
