Metro Blooms is a Minnesota-based nonprofit that partners with communities to nurture and support thriving ecosystems, land, and water.

We practice shared leadership and care, moving toward environmental justice. We promote environmentally sound practices in our own yards and in the larger environment. We partner with communities, including property owners and residents, businesses, organizations, local governments and watershed districts, to create resilient landscapes and foster clean watersheds, embracing the values of equity and inclusion to solve environmental challenges.

Creating change in their HOA 🌼✨

Earlier this summer, Metro Blooms had the opportunity to lead the planting for a native garden project at Rose Court HOA!

Residents at Rose Court applied and received a $5,000 Community Grant from the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization to make this project happen! Metro Blooms Design+Build designed the planting and Open Space Gardens completed site prep.

As their new plants grow in, this garden will help collect downhill stormwater runoff and protect water quality, offer resources for pollinators, and add beauty to the Rose Court community!

Our second Sustainable Landcare Training of the summer at the Regional Apprenticeship Training Center was a great success! 🤩

We were able to plant a tree and connect with new guest speakers like Marlee from Reviving Roots Therapy & Wellness. 🌱 Marlee participated in our career readiness programming and was able to share with trainees how stress/trauma impact our decision making process.

We also connected with returning guest speakers Shahin and Kabir from the City of Minneapolis Government. Kabir led our team and trainees in an activity that allowed us to connect with one another, while Shahin was able to share with us how he found his path to being an Arborist. 🌳

Thank you to all the trainees and guests for an inspiring time together! 💚

If you planted new native perennials in your yard this growing season, don’t forget to keep watering them! 🌱💧

Much of Minnesota is currently experiencing drought conditions, and while native plants are hardy, they need extra support while still establishing. Some reminders to keep in mind:

💧 For new plantings, water your plants a minimum of 1” per week, more on especially dry weeks.

💧 Water a longer time every few days, rather than a little bit every day. This helps water go deeper into the soil, encouraging your plants to grow deeper roots and become more resilient to drought.

💧 The best time to water is early in morning while the ground is still cool. This helps the water soak into the soil. Avoid watering at night, as water tends to rest in the soil and encourages rot and pests.

We are so impressed by Manny! 💫

Manny started at Metro Blooms in 2023 as an 18 year old, now he is one of our project managers on the Community Relations team! 🌿

Since last summer he has coordinated our partnership with City of Lakes Community Land Trust (CLCLT), providing 25 rain gardens and 15 native trees to homeowners and been in charge of 10 education and planting events. 🌱

This summer, he partnered with Conservation Corps Minnesota & Iowa's youth education pilot program and the teens helped us plant 9 of the CLCLT rain gardens! 💧

In addition to holding all these details and making this very cool project happen, he brings his sharp mind, dedication, and sense of justice to all he does! We are so lucky to have Manny on our team. 🤎

A garden's first guest. 🧡🦋

Sometimes it doesn't take long for pollinators to discover a new habitat.

As our Metro Blooms Design+Build crew was putting the finishing touches on this installation, they spotted this monarch butterfly visiting a butterfly milkweed already in bloom. It's a reminder that when we plant native species, wildlife is often quick to find them.

Monarch butterflies depend on milkweed throughout their life cycle. They lay their eggs exclusively on milkweed plants, and the flowers also provide an important nectar source for adult butterflies.

As monarchs begin their annual migration south, you may start noticing more of these iconic butterflies! Every patch of native habitat helps support them on their big journey. 💫

We're bringing lots of new rain gardens to City of St. Louis Park, Minnesota! 🌱💧

Our Metro Blooms Design+Build team and Conservation Corps Minnesota & Iowa crews have been hard at work preparing new rain gardens for residents through St. Louis Park's Rainwater Rewards Program. Once the gardens are ready, residents pick up and plant the native plants that will bring them to life!

💧 Unlike a typical garden bed, a rain garden is designed as a shallow depression that captures rainwater runoff from roofs, driveways, sidewalks, and streets. Instead of carrying pollutants into nearby lakes and streams, the water soaks into the ground where native plant roots help absorb it and the soil filters out pollutants.

🌼 Rain gardens don't just protect clean water—they also create habitat for pollinators and other wildlife. We design rain gardens using native plants that thrive in both wet and dry conditions, so they're ready to soak up rain after a storm, even following a dry spell.

Last week our landscape designer Rich led the Pollinator Pathway Bike Tour as part of the 2026 Pollapalooza Pollinator Festival! 🚲🦋

Their route included the Midtown Greenway Coalition Pollinator Pathway, which has over 5 miles of connected habitat for endangered monarchs, rusty patched bumble bees, and other pollinators.

The Midtown Greenway Pollinator Pathway was created with support from a Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources Pollinator Pathways grant with help from Blue Thumb - Planting for Clean Water partner Blissful Bee Gardening .

You can visit the gardens too! Start on either end of the Greenway, either near the Mississippi River or the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes. The gardens are spaced about every quarter mile. These new gardens connect to the many other gardens in the Greenway, such as the Soo Line Community Garden and Vera's Garden.

🌿✨ We love how all the elements came together on this Metro Blooms Design+Build project!

This backyard transformation, funded through a Nine Mile Creek Watershed District grant, turned a 1,700-square-foot hillside into a vibrant native planting designed to bring color, habitat, and beauty to the landscape.

One of our favorite features? The garden incorporates an existing mountain bike trail that once belonged to the resident's kiddo. Now that the trail is no longer used for mountain biking, it has been repurposed as a walking path that winds through the garden—creating an inviting way to explore the new plantings and care for the landscape.

The project also includes thoughtful features like boulders that make it easier to access the garden hose, along with prairie flowers, grasses, and shrubs selected to thrive in the site's growing conditions.

Some of the native plants included are alumroot, big-leaved aster, fox sedge, meadow blazing star, prairie phlox, stiff goldenrod, and wild geranium. 🌸

Great work by our install crew bringing this beautiful design to life! 💚
