LumberStash We save lumber from the landfill out of respect for the forest. Every day, useful lumber is tossed in construction and renovation dumpsters.

There’s a ridiculous amount of opportunity for this in every city in the USA, we are based in Minneapolis www.LumberStash.com Then it waits to be trucked to the landfill. The contractors don't have time or space to deal with it. There are also many piles of leftover lumber taking up space in basements and garages. Meanwhile, unknowingly, people who need the same type of lumber drive past it to purchase new lumber at the big box stores. This is a big problem and a huge side gig opportunity.

​LumberStash is a growing network of (backyard/garage) salvaged lumber stores that are run by good people. Most of the inventory would be in the landfill if we didn't save it. Using existing space in our yard / garage and basic tools we have almost no overheard costs. This allows us to sell salvaged lumber (as a side gig) at a very good price while earning a nice wage.

​We also make products. The growing list of wooden products are made by the same network of people. These products are made from the same locally salvaged lumber that we sell. We aim to make these products superior to similar priced options that are made from new lumber and typically shipped across the ocean

Derek Winston Maxwell is helping us fix this place up. We love this old house, it’s gonna be really fun to look at all the material in here, remember where I salvaged it from and then brag about it to anybody who comes over. Used is so much cooler than new.

Our business model is working. instead of sending all our money to a landlord or the bank for commercial warehouse space.. that would actually add labor to this process. We just give away a bunch of stuff and sell at prices that make it move fast. We think this is good everybody. We’re earning a living wage saving things from the landfill that typically aren’t valuable enough for people to bother with.

I have a bunch of experience… trial and error hauling loads on my homemade trailer. Lumber, Canoes, paddle boards, my wife and kids, Christmas trees etc. The trailer started as an old Burly found in an alley. It has the original wheels, rims and the solid aluminum tongue is original… but when your load is longer than the tongue, the load needs to become the tongue. In this case, I strapped a 2 x 6 on top of the load and it worked great. The frame of the trailer is wider and stronger than it was originally.. it’s made from 1 inch steel EMT that was pulled out of a dumpster.

Thanks to Mike, Tom and Claire Distad | St Paul MN | Realtors for setting us up with another Salvage project. It’s a bummer that there was a fire in this place but there’s still a lot of good material here and we will get it reused. Some of it is posted on the website, check it out.
