ESTHER Homes ESTHER Homes comes alongside pregnant women experiencing crisis by providing housing and resources. Our focus is to meet people where they are at.

ESTHER Homes is a maternity housing program serving pregnant women who are in crisis or facing homelessness. ESTHER Homes was established in 2015 in Saint Paul, Minnesota and is unique from other transitional housing options as we have staff living in the home providing community and supportive services. Our job is not to change or fix people. Our mission is to love and provide a space where people are reminded of their own ability, strength, and value as women, mothers, and people within their communities. We offer space to women throughout pregnancy and after birth until they are able to obtain long-term housing. Families have their own room in one of our houses where they have a safe and stable place to live; without needing to worry about how they will pay rent or where they will sleep, families can focus on achieving other goals for their health and well-being. We offer a community support structure that allows the women to focus on themselves, their dreams, set goals and achieve them. Staff live in our homes to provide consistent support, accountability, and encouragement. We meet with each woman weekly to discuss goals, the resources she needs and determine the phases she will walk through to accomplish this for herself and her family. We offer community, people to cheer on each family, and to sit with them in life’s challenges and to celebrate the beauty of her story! ESTHER Homes in a non-profit organization started by two women, Amber Hornsby and Rachel Hanus, who were inspired to meet women where they are at and walk along side of them.

Many hands make the work light and this weekend, those hands made a real difference.

We are deeply grateful to the volunteers from Five Oaks Church who gave their time over the last two weekends to help care for this home. From painting and deck railing to a retaining wall, organizing, sorting and cleaning, they helped us accomplish projects that had been waiting for the right people to step in.

What made the day even more meaningful multiple generations serving together: grandparents, parents and kids all showing up to help bring this home stronger, more welcoming and bring this project to completion. This is what it looks like when a community says, “We are with you!”

Partnership is more than showing up for the project in front of you. Sometimes it means looking further, noticing what else is needed and inviting others to help carry the work.

That is exactly what happened when a volunteer from Five Oaks Church saw the exterior needs at ESTHER Homes and began advocating on our behalf. He connected with other organizations and local businesses, helping secure a boom lift from Duke Rentals , aluminum deck railings from AFCO Industries, Inc. , paint from Sherwin-Williams , landscaping support and materials for a retaining wall.

Now, over two full weekends, individuals, churches and businesses will work side by side to care for the home where mothers and children find safety, stability and belonging.

This is what it means to link arms. One person notices. Others bring their time, skills, resources and relationships. Together, what once felt out of reach becomes possible!

Community changes everything and we are deeply grateful for everyone making this project a reality. Thank you Adam, Scott, Liza and all the amazing volunteers from for your time and investment!

We love to celebrate at ESTHER Homes!

A holiday. A birthday. Something big. Something small. Sometimes simply because everyone kept showing up on a random Tuesday.

We have a few birthdays in the home this week and we are ready to celebrate! Whatever meal they choose, whatever cake they request…we do our best to make it happen.

One of our mamas asked for a Southern caramel cake, so we are baking!

Birthdays are some of our favorite days because they give us the chance to celebrate the person…not what she has accomplished or overcome, but simply who she is.

So cheers to you, Mama! We are so glad we know you and so grateful we get to do life and community with you.

Crisis doesn’t always look like an emergency.

Sometimes it’s a county issue with childcare benefits, a stop at the library’s county hub that doesn’t solve the problem, a plan to get someone to work…and then an overheating car.

So now we’re pulling over every five minutes, waiting on the phone for county and trying to get the documentation she needs to return to work.

None of this was in the plan. But this is life. And honestly? We’re laughing.

Not because it isn’t frustrating, but because we’re focusing on what we can do instead of letting one chaotic and unplanned morning take over the whole day.

Crisis doesn’t always require panic. Sometimes it requires a pivot, a little patience, a phone call, a deep breath and maybe a few laughs.

It’s Monday. We’re here. And well…we’ve got time.

We believe the courage of one mother can change the direction of an entire family. When a mother finds safety, begins to heal and recognizes her own strength, her children experience something different. When she continues her education, pursues meaningful employment, builds healthy relationships and creates a stable home, the impact reaches far beyond today. And when she knows there is a community willing to keep showing up, she does not have to carry that work alone.

This is why we think generations. We walk alongside the woman in front of us while holding hope for the children beside her and the future still being written.

The spaces we create communicate what we believe about the people who enter them. At ESTHER Homes, we are intentional about creating spaces of belonging, dignity, accountability, hope and opportunity.

A place where a woman does not have to prove that she deserves to belong.

A place where she is treated with dignity while being encouraged to take ownership of what comes next.

A place where honest conversations can happen, new possibilities can be explored and progress can unfold at a pace shaped by her choices and goals.

We are not simply filling rooms. We are creating space for women and families to build lives of lasting stability during their time in the home and long after they leave.

The women who come to ESTHER Homes do not need to be rescued. They are courageous, capable women navigating circumstances that were never meant to be carried alone.

Our role is not to take over, make decisions for them or write the ending to their stories. Our role is to see them. To believe in them. To challenge them when growth requires courage.
To remind them of their God-given worth when life has caused them to forget. And to walk alongside them as they make their own choices, pursue their goals and build stability for their families.

This is dignity before dependency. Relationship, not rescue.

Housing provides safety, but we have learned that safety alone is not the end of the story.

A home creates room to breathe. To rest. To begin thinking beyond the immediate crisis. It provides the stability needed to take the next step. But healing and lasting transformation happen through relationship. They happen around the kitchen table, on the drive to an appointment and during the conversations that do not fit neatly into office hours. They happen when someone remains present through progress, setbacks, questions and change.

At ESTHER Homes, we provide more than a room. We build relationships that remind a woman she is seen, supported and does not have to navigate what comes next alone.

Before ESTHER Homes was an organization, there were relationships. Before there was a house, there was friendship. Before there was a strategic plan, a program model or a clearly marked path forward, there was a willingness to say yes.

Not a yes that had every detail figured out. Just a yes willing to make room, show up and take the next step.

ESTHER Homes was built from relationships, not transactions, and that remains true today. We believe meaningful change begins when people sit together, listen honestly and choose to keep showing up for one another.

The organization has grown. The work has become stronger. The vision has become clearer. But relationships are still where it all begins.
